I have been reading some posts regarding pvp, and gearing, and i must assume most people who talk about it have started in either WOD or Legion and have no actual knowledge of what good pvp gearing is and how it should work, despite their ranking being this and that, since buying rating makes cr kinda irrelevant nowadays.
MOP pvp gearing was the true experience and the true way to go at it, 1st, everyone had the same gear, except the weapon from 2.2k rating, pve gear was utterly useless in pvp, that includes the legendary cloak, and everything was about skill, where let´s say a warrior vs a warrior with the exact same gear would win or loose based on skill alone.
That and the pvp stat, which was pvp power back then, that actually mattered.
So it´s disheartening people coming here stating the flawed WOD and Legion pvp gear was awesome, when in fact it paled to comparison to MOP.
Since gear wasn´t gated by rating there was no need for boosters, and the gear itself was useless in pve, so no Mythic raiders did not have any upperhand in pvp, complete separation made the system awesome.
… No, of course it was gear that decided it then. What else could it be with the exact same gear?
I don’t think you know what the WoD gearing was. It was the same as MoP except no ilvl increase on the wep for rating, so everyone truly had the same ilvl.
The catch-up was designed better in WoD as well, compared to MoP.
Another way to put it, is that WoD gearing was the improved MoP gearing. Except for the trashran weekly box throughout the entire expansion and affli locks in WoD s3.
The WOD system was just a catchup for pve players to not get one shotted or else they would cry their eyes out like they always do.
MOP pvp gearing was pvp and only pvp gearing specific and should remain so.
… What? What are you even talking about? All PvE gear was downscaled, the only PvE gear used in WoD was affli locks in WoD s3 due to the unique interaction of haste+mastery with their UA+haunt gameplay design, and the extra sockets from the mythic gear on top of it.
The rest was pure PvP.
I mean the legion templates were great and only missed adjustable secondary stats for people to really get any use of it, the current format is awful and to be fair even the older expansion formats were bad to some extent or another.
Getting awarded more gear / conquest based on RNG / rating / higher item level gear for being higher rated is all mutually as stupid as each other, mists had a good idea of what it was doing minus the bonus conquest for being x-rated.
No, they weren’t. They needed 2 things different for it to have been great:
- No ilvl differences.
- Adjustable secondary stats, as you mentioned.
But because those 2 things weren’t there, the Legion templates were garbage. The ilvl differences were just reduced by a factor of 10, but at the same time the ilvl progression from patch to patch was insane.
100% Agree about MOP system but I’d even remove the more powerful wepon stats for 2.2, and the reward for high rated PVP can come in the form of Transmogs/Illusions/Mounts/Titles, we don’t need the higher Item level as a reward, I want to know if I made it to higher ratings through skill. I had to push 2.1 on RBGs on 3 charas just so I could actually have some fun in arena and feel what the classes are like, because when you are 200 ilvl vs 226 ilvl you don’t even get to know how your class is even supposed to feel in PVP.
Rng?
You get the fun of being roflstomped by people who bought their rating from them boosties xD
I’ve been saying this since December but Blizzard won’t change the system in this expansion. Pray for the next one x
Just coming back to this. Gearing is an issue because Glads and Duelists can one shot us noobs stuck at 1400-1600. However, priority right now should be fixing OP specs. BM, Warrior, Ret, Feral, Assassination rogue, DH. They represent 90% of arena right now.
You say whatever you want, wod’s pvp gear was better.
No gear difference (full pvp, zéro Gear pve) (at mop s14 / s15 the pve gear was better in world pvp)
No upgrade gear (mop need 2.2 for weapons 1nd 2 4 for enchant)
Disable all legendary effects
Fastest gear retrofit.
If something is good for PvP, blizzard won’t do it.
They used to talk to players at the top of the leaderboards to get feedback about balance.
I’ve been competitive on this game from s10 to 18 (last of wod), from 11 years old to 17, and its been for nothing cause blizzard doesn’t know how to run an esports scene, or even games in general actually.
Im trying SL right now and im just seeing the honor gear is timegated behind renown. so if i see it correctly…people be 226 ilvl, but if you just leveld and buy honor, you CANNOT upgrade it to a competitive ilvl ?
LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
Basically that´s it, instead of starting with fresh honor gear for everyone, the 2k rated gear from previous season is still better than the new upgraded honor gear.
So if you get all your honor gear and enter arena vs a dude who had Rival ilvl gear and didnt have to farm anything new this new season, you are still at a disadvantage.
Before, or well, until MOP, the new pvp gear for each season was always better than the previous.
What’s wrong with current gearing? I like it, easy gear, just don’t like to gear alts on 6th months of the patch, but at the start it’s pretty easy.
Why not though. We already have mop season 1 balance…
Seriously why taste for blood oneshot, frost bomb oneshot or stampede oneshot back then were considered broken af and fixed right away when we have the exact same clown fiesta now and more …and nobody seems to give a sh.
New pvp gear should make previous season gear obsolete, but it didnt, people with rival gear from previous season still have the upperhand vs people with upgraded honour gear.
Lets bring nothing from MoP, except good lore and art, this was bad expansion… one of worst at least for me.
Actually both pvp and pve where awesome, lore was a lot better and made more sense than what we have currently.
I hope the person who removed Reforging does not work for Blizzard anymore and is rotting six feet under.
