Let’s speak about Hammer of Wrath Discord (Holy Pally channel)

TEXT-BLOCK DETECTED

Hello Holy E-people,

I’m going to open this post with the following quotes. I think it will give you a brief idea of what this post is about (if you didn’t get it from the title)…

Quote:

Bullying is the use of force, coercion, hurtful teasing or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate.

Bullying is the activity of repeated, aggressive behavior intended to hurt another individual, physically, mentally or emotionally. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. One essential prerequisite is the perception (by the bully or by others) of an imbalance of physical or social power.

Bullying can be done individually or by a group, called mobbing, in which the bully may have one or more followers who are willing to assist the primary bully or who reinforce the bully by providing positive feedback such as laughing.

Let’s start with the drama…

Unfortunately, although it is a game that should serve to have fun, the above quotes reflect what is going on in the Hammer of Wrath Discord channel. To be clear, I’m going to speak only about the Holy Paladin SUB channels. I’m not sure if this extends to the other sub-channels too.

First of all, maybe you are asking why I’m posting this post here, not in the general forum or outside the WOW forum. Because it is NOT a Blizzard problem. Well, many people use Discord as the primary source to get quick answers or comment on the Holy Paladin.

Also, it is funny, but you know after the last patch, we need to sign a social contract about to be ‘NICE PEOPLE’ in-game and well, even if it is not a Blizzard problem, it indirectly is linked with the game and affect the image of the game and company in some way. So why not post it here and make this problem visible?

Instead of getting help (sometimes it happens, it is not all black and bad). A big group of people, composed of moderators and normal users, prefer to ridicule or laugh at people who ask/comment on things, and why not say, abuse of power, muting and banning people because they think different. The sad part is that they believe it is right and funny, but sadly, it is not. Even if it is a game, there are humans behind every screen, and no one has the right to abuse another person for the sole fact of thinking differently.

Maybe at this point, you think… ok bro, YOU had a problem and YOU are exaggerating. Unfortunately, it is not the case… please find below some examples.

EX.1

A new user joined the channel; this person started dropping their ideas about new talents or spells to incorporate into the game. This person is asking for some feedback, and the bully team, instead of helping them to understand, maybe it is not good because X and Y – BTW in my understanding, nobody in that channel work at Blizzard or they are part of that 1% of a master player; therefore, there are not good or bad opinions/ideas. However, this bullying group always think they only have the right version of how to play the holy paladin for the sake of whatever – They started laughing about this person’s ideas and creating memes about them, etc. End of the story, this new person got muted/banned from the channel reason people reported them because their ideas and comments went against the vision of the bullying group.

EX.2

A user tries to face one of the moderators who is all time laughing at people or, let’s say, salty this is his standard mood. The moderator muted this user; I’m not sure if he got banned or if this user left the channel. However, I’m still seeing memes about this user.

EX.3

A new user lands on the channel with a build asking for feedback. A moderator starts scarcely speaking with him and then the bully team start laughing and throwing more petrol on the fire. This new user doesn’t know what is going on and how salty this channel is. He sent this text ‘‘let me teach you some social skills… in the position you are in, as templar, you truely downgrade the importance of the role in the community. Next time be “hey man, how come you took those talents and not glimmer etc”’’ after that, the fire started getting out of control and the moderators, instead of appeasing the fire, muted/banned this new user.

There’re more examples… for example one of the good and objective holy paladin content creators left the channel after some memes… etc

I know nobody can do anything! Even Blizzard or Disrcod people… Because unfortunately, the people who moderate that channel are part of this high-school bully patrol. So there is no point in reporting anything if these people who should act objectively and punish the aggressor instead of the victim or, even worse, laugh at the victim and be part of this bully group because they think it is cool, but it is not!

What I want to get from this post is to highlight this channel’s toxicity and inform people who are thinking about joining that channel to avoid any future frustrations and disappointment (please never let what happens in that channel pull you down). Also, I want to tell those who left (unfortunately, big streamers left it for this toxicity) the channel or have been muted/banned - hey man, you are not alone. Many people were in your shoes, and new people are/will be in yours soon.

So, maybe at this point, you are asking, “Ok bro, but after that, I don’t know where I should go to get answers to my Holy questions or share my thoughts” No panic! I think there are different places you can try, for example:

  • This forum.
Yes, I know. Maybe it takes some time to get an answer but sometimes worth waiting and avoiding the typical Discord troll. I also find it essential to highlight this forum everybody is welcome, and any point of view is valid. So you can feel free to ask whatever you want, even if it is the most noob question and you know someone will answer you in a ‘good’ way if not, someone objective (Blizzard) will take care of you.

  • In-game.
Just ask something in the general chat and you will get surprises about many people who are happy to help.

  • In-game communities.
To be honest I’ve never used them but hey it is another way to try.

  • Ellesmere Gaming‘s discord channel.
It is another Discord channel, but the people there seem more friendly and human. At least, I have never seen any bullying behaviour or big trolling drama. The moderators seem very professional and do their job very well.

  • Youtube and Twitch.
Sometimes it is better to see someone playing in your class. Also, all the streamers are generally very open to answering questions.

    • MadSkillzzTV
    • Midway
    • Snowmixy
    • Zaldinfox
  • Guides.
Well, guides could be helpful to give you a quick answer or to understand basic things about the class. However, if you want a solution for something more specific, maybe you should try the previous options.

    • Ice-veins
    • Wowhead
    • Wingsiusup
  • Hammer of Wrath Discord channel.
After all this block text, I hope you know what is going on there. However, feel free to join there but be aware you may be the meme of the day or, worst case, bullied. However, sometimes you can get a quick answer without troll or hate! Not all if bad… just the people managing that channel discord are not the best at dealing with this toxicity.

That is all,

I’m happy to know what is your experience in that channel or in others and please be kind with people or just don’t say anything… but you never know how is behind the other screen and how your words could affect this person.

Be empathetic and kind is the power and part of the Holy Paladin lore too haha!

PS: Sorry English is not my mother langue.

Horrible build and/or talent takes, being presented as facts will do that. When being told to stop, that didn’t change the way things were presented. So people (mods) stepped in so 120K people didn’t receive false information. We work based on facts and math, not the world of feelycrafty…

Rather than reflect upon those actions, you made this thread. Bravo.

Now i do not know about this specifically but discord moderators being bullies have happened to several specs and classes so much so that major contributors have completely stopped working with the people there.

And sims are not reality and facts.

This is very weird to say considering the information the mods give is easier to find than what is in the chat.

Again i do not know about this at all but you seem to know about it and you are giving off a very bad image if you had anything to do with it.
It also tells me at least you do not understand how discord is used by most people just based on you using the 120k number i can tell this for sure.

Yeah its toxic covered in rose petals. If you dont belong to the mod and friends group, most often that not you are wrong and they are right even though thats not the case. They tolerate extremely bad behaviours just because its in that close-friends group.

Ellesmere website and the rest is more than enough. Reddit aswell.

You have defined it right. I’m 100% with your post.

That Discord ‘official’ is so toxic… this afternoon, it had another big toxic moment when people started accusing a guy of being responsible for this post and all the bully patrol jumped on him.

I cannot believe that channel is still marked as an Official Paladin channel
