For many of us, levelling through quests and dungeons is incredibly boring. I managed to get from level 10 to level 13 through dungeons before falling asleep at my keyboard. There’s only so many times I can do these repetitive, scripted PvE nonsense.
Why not let us level through PvP? The XP is so poor at the moment that nobody even bothers queueing for battlegrounds. ~20 minute game for a 50% chance of receiving 2-3 bars of XP is AWFUL!
Because PvP should never be THE best way to level up.
WoW is mainly a PvE game. The sooner the PvP playerbase accepts that, the better.
I know it’s not nice to hear, but it’s the truth. WoW has always been mainly a PvE game and the devs’ main focus.
Now; I’m not against buffing xp rates compared to what they are now, but they should always be a bit behind ‘the intended way to level up’.
That’s no excuse to not have reasonable levelling rates for PvP. You could use that same argument as to why PvE gear should be BiS in PvP situations.
We had decent levelling rates at one point, and low level BGs were actually active with 5-10 minute queues in all brackets. Nowadays? It’s 30+ minute queues at peak hour. There was no reason to massively nerf the XP from BGs.
The only reason I can think of, is that levelling is so dead due to lack of new players, they’d rather funnel everyone through boring dungeons to keep queue times reasonable.
low lvl bgs are clownfiesta, you lack half of your abilities and also don’t get gold which helps you to upgrade your gear with enchants.
when people got rewarded with high exp we know how it resulted. I remember there was an activity called Korrak’s Revenge. Alliance had 10% winrate because horde also qued as alliance mercenaries, it was definition of disgust.
people should level through open world not even dungeons.
That’s fine and all, but currently, completing a 5 man dungeon (which has shorter queues, and is easier than winning a BG since BGs are designed around having a 50% winrate) fills about 25% of your XP bar.
Winning a BG fills like 7%, and losing the BG is at best 3%.
There’s an entire universe between “making PvP leveling less miserable than it is now” and “PvP becoming the best way to level up”.
At this point, it’s not even about XP rates anymore.
They copied Fractals, World Quests and Mounts from GW2. All of these have been successes. Now, they need to copy Tomes of Knowledge.
Completing Ranked PvP, M+ dungeons and killing raid bosses should reward players with Tomes of Knowledge - an account bound consumable that grants 1 level to any alt of your choosing.
Don’t think you could from level 1. If I recall it was only from about leve 25 - 30 onwards, but yes that is how l levelled most of my alts. Was a longer grind but a bit more fun and doing random quests in between while waiting for the queue to pop. Of course the game was a lot busier back then and had more players so it did not take very long to get into one.
if revamped or just balanced slightly (no twinks), pvp leveling could be a good pipeline for the new zug zug generation of players.
login, que, smash (get level as a side)
it’s so perfect i can’t believe it isn’t implemented as a way of siphoning players from the insta pvp genre, because, yes, despite some claims, wow pvp is entertaining…like there is some good adrenaline dosage locked behind a warrior charge for example…
It is an MMORPG with a different ‘endgame cycle’ than most other MMORPGS.
And WoW isn’t like that. So systems that work in GW2 will not necessarily work in WoW.
Leveling is an important part of MMORPGs and I don’t think it should be skippable like how you proposed. That was my point.
