Well the Horde got Nightborne as well now.
So the direction seems to be: “More Elves” 
Because each addition is made on a permanent basis.
Unless the developers want to face huge backlash from the people who already have them.
Let us imagine this situation:
You rolled a Blood Elf/Nightborne to play on Horde side, but now that character is suddenly on Alliance side.
I can be wrong, but this could be taken to court.

Nightborne are A-OK. Blood elf females look fragile and tiny, the males look like manga characters. Send them off to the Alliance!
Actually, does anyone have the figures of most played race? Just out of curiosity. When I’m in oribobobobobos it seems like 80% of the horde there are all tiny blood elf girls.
Last time there were accurate official figures I think it was 38% of the Horde was Blood Elves, of both sexes, closely followed by Orcs and Forsaken, who were roughly even, then Trolls not far behind, No idea how the Allied Race situation has changed that, as there is no accurate data since their introduction.
Besides, Evil-ish Elves. That’s what Elves -were- before Tolkien White-washed them. They perfectly fit the morally ambiguous Horde

Blood Elves are a cool and respectable race. (Saying this as someone who was literally exiled by said Blood elves).
I love the theme, the music, the Heritage armor.
There is something cool about Elves Vs Humans.

Not his most flattering look I suppose. I do prefer the Blood Elf eyes from BFA akin to this rendition though, rather than the Shadowlands take.

Like it or not, without the blood elves the Horde would’ve remained massive underdogs. They are a necessary evil
ive always found elves in generald to be quite boring, dont understand why so much of the playerbase mains them
