Let's do some math!

Before we all cry our eyes out with the new nerfs, let’s all do some math to figure out what the nerfs actually mean.
It can be kinda unclear to see through the trinket set bonus when looking at nerfs, so let’s try and figure it all out.
If you disagree with something in my post, please use math as a counter argument.
There are a lot of modifiers in this game, so if I miss something, please let me know.

Just to be clear, I will calculate percentages using the current modfiers from pvp trinket set bonus (15% reduced duration of all cc).

Last but not least, I will refrain from putting my personal opinions into the main post, since I want it to informational.

  • Critical strikes now deal 150% of base damage and healing in PvP combat (was 175%).

So if you cast a spell that would hit for 100 damage baseline and it crits, you now hit for 150dmg instead of 175dmg.
150/175 = 0,857.
1-0,857 = 0,143
0,143*100 = 14,3

So your lava burst, chaos bolt and other guaranteed crits essentially gets their damage nerfed by 14,3%.

  • Interrupt duration changes

Interrupts are pretty straight forward to calculate since they weren’t affected by the trinket set bonus.

I will calculate 1 example, and then list the nerfs as %.

Shaman, wind shear goes from 3 seconds to 2 seconds.
2/3 = 0,6666
1-0,6666 = 0,3333
0,33*100 = 33,33.
So shamans interrupt gets a 33% nerf.

Below are all interrupt nerfs in percentages. I will round off numbers for convinience

Counter Spell - 17%
Spell Lock - 17%
Skull Bash - 25%
Spear Hand Strike - 25%
Rebuke - 25%
Pummel - 25%
Wind Shear - 33%
Kick - 40%

  • CROWD CONTROL PVP DURATION CHANGES – The below changes for the noted crowd control abilities are PvP duration changes.

Once again, I will calculate an example for you to see.
Mind Control reduced from 8s to 6s.
6/(8 * 0,85) = 0,88235
1-0,88235 = 0,1176
0,1176*100 = 11,76.
So Mind Control gets a 12% nerf to duration.

Blinding Sleet - 6%
Asphyxiate - 29%
Fel Eruption - 12%
Entangling Roots - 12%
Hibernate - 12%
Mass Entanglement - 12%
Ursol’s Vortex - 29%
Landslide - 12%
Freezing Trap - 12%
Steel Trap - 12%
Scatter Shot - 12%
Intimidation - 29%
Polymorph - 12%
Mass Polymorph - 12%
Ring of Frost - 12%
Hammer of Justice - 2%
Blinding Light - 6%
Repentance - 12%
Turn Evil - 12%
Mind Control - 12%
Shackle Undead - 12%
Psychic Horror - 12%
Blind - 26%
Sap - 12%
Kidney Shot:
1 combo point - 41%
2 combo points - 22%
3 combo points - 12%
4 combo points - 6%
5 combo points - 2%
Earthgrab Totem - 12%
Hex - 12%
Seduction - 12%
Banish - 12%
Axe Toss - 12%
Grimoire: Felguard - 12%
Storm Bolt - 12%

All CC that Isn’t on the list above kinda gets buffed, since they remove the 15% cc reduction from the trinket set bonus.

Example, a rogues Cheap Shot went from 4*0,85 = 3,6s to 4s.
Essentially a 11% increase in stun duration for Cheap Shot. This buff counts for all CC that isn’t nerfed.

If I missed something, feel free to point it out. I hope this post will help to clarify how big (or small) the changes actually are.
I hope you can overlook spelling errors and missclicks. This was posted from my phone, and english is not my first language.

agree on some content that too many cc in game is bad which was complete blizzards own fault for df ability bloat

im going to cry on 1min cd 3sec stun on Intimidation

disgusting changes and should pruned the cc they added in df instead, im not excited to play pve for pvp and i doubt i will enjoy the mindless cleaving on middle or train a 1 target till it dies that we are about to head on

Agree, some nerfs seems kinda overdone.
The 5 to 3 seconds stuns are rough.
Binding shot (the arrow on the ground that stuns, not sure if it’s the name?), seems untouched though. Maybe it will see some play.
Scatter Shot into Freeze Trap is kinda not viable anymore.

Generally speaking, I think they overdone the changes a bit.
The problem with interrupts as a caster, is only if you have limited spells schools. As a holy priest an interrupt feel like a stun, that will not change.
Adding more spells schools to healers, or give interrupt a DR and/or reward fake casting by giving all Precognition would all be better ways to nerf interrupts imo.

A lot of players complained about all the micro cc. That will not change either.
So I feel like Blizzard missed the mark a bit with these changes.

Pretty big nerf for certain specs. I really hope that Blizzard will be taking a look at the numbers after the changes.

Again this is pretty big.
I would much rather have different spell schools. As disc I just go lolrofl when getting locked out of a spell school, as holy it feels like a full on silence.

Micro CC everywhere still though.
As written in many other threads, all will be orcs.

I really, REALLY hope, that Blizzard finally decides to disable all racials in rated pvp combat.

Somehow Im not surprised. Its gonna be a 20 years old tradition to fail at balancing the class.

It’s really nice to see this thread at the top of the page while NA forum full of dramas and Twitch streamers related topics.
Honestly I don’t wanna spread rumors, but if some streamer used his bromance with Ion to influence a more relevant position for his army of 2400 challenge orcs/humans, I can’t care less.

While rogues take a pretty big hit with the kick and blind into sap nerf, it seems like no one realises that rogues stuns got buffed :joy:

DK stun from 5 seconds to 3 seconds… when you need to spend a talent for it

YH thats DUMB
thats -1 point for Dk’s

and not to mentioned the stun is gatekeeping the other talents in the tree

  • what would of been better would to slap a 2min CD on it and keep it at 5 seconds
  • blinding sleet is also gatekeeping the talents

dk already was a zug zug, these changes from 5 second to 3 seconds on a 45cd cd just mean we popp them randomly and zug zug more

if you make them meaningfull by giving them a full CC duration ie 5 seconds in length but with a 2min cd
we can actually be cautious about using them

hunter :

  • Hunter changes are pretty annoying too considering you need Skill to land a trap ( its an Aoe point and click to land )
its not as easy as other CC options where it is instant , you need to lay it on the ground

its not ideal to nerf it in my opinion it requires the scatter set up but with scatter nerfed too, its just not worth

Agree. Funny that rogues were the big topic, hunters got hit HARD by the nerfhammer.
3s scatter shot into 6s dr freezing trap is so bad. And their stun goes from 5 to 3 seconds as well.
Survival hunters interrupt goes unnerfed, but moght be the worst interrupt in the game anyway.

Gotta agree once again.
DK’s “big” cc being 3 seconds is laughable.
It’s like blizzard decided that cc can only be nerfed by duration reductions.
As you said cd increase would be another way.
Or extending DR’s so you can’t get cc’d fully as often.

less cc not less duration

less cc but meaningfull cc

does dh really need 2 stuns, 1 fear, 1 incap?
does hunter need scatter, trap, silence, roots, stun?
does feral need 3 stuns and what not
does rogue need…well, you all know what rogue has…

its too much, way too much across the board

it was never about the duration, it was always about the sheer amount. Its very disappointing that blizz does not realise that
