Let's Talk About The (in-game) Weather

I love weather effects, and for me, they make a big difference to how I enjoy the game. The new engineering toys that let you ‘customise’ your weather are a great addition, but the limited range is really disappointing.

Is it possible to have a mobile version of the toys? Perhaps a weather-generating backpack that one of my characters equips and I can quest while seeing the zone from a new perspective? (I tried the sandstorm generator in Blade’s Edge and it looks amazing! I also tried the Dreamsurge Remnant toy in Telogrus Rift and it’s great!)

I know this is a fairly niche and unimportant element to the game, and I know a lot of folk dislike strong weather FX, but for me it makes the world feel more alive. Anyone else Team Weather FX?

I’m all for more weather effects in the environment. DF introduced a number of toys that offer some additional, personal choice - but like you say OP, the range is limited and the effects are stationary to the placed-down toy. I’d love to see those limitations removed.

Id def use a toy like this if it had a reasonable duration & cooldown.

In game weather is a severely underutilised part of the game’s atmosphere.

Rainstorms, fog, thunderstorms, hazy heat, snowstorms etc …apparently none of that exists anywhere in Azeroth.

The best we can get is a slight drizzle.

is okay until you get flashbang by the mighty sunlight of Limsa Lominsa.

Seeing someone with a pillow sized cloud over their head as they run around with their own shower would be funny.

I hate how WoW uses the same night and day cycles as real life.

I basically only play at night, so the game always looks a bit sad and dark to me. I’d like to see the sun sometimes.

you Forum in the day, and WoW in the night?

There should be an Environment section in the Options menu. With settings for:
Day / Night cycle frequency.
Weather frequency.
Intensity of both.

Personally I’d have it Day all the time and no weather. Both Night and rainmake the world harder to navigate.
But I realise some people like having these so making them options is best way to go.

I work 9-6, so yes, pretty much.

oh lord, you are a real human!

It’s one of the things I love. I hated Bastion late at night, constantly insanely bright. I was more at home in Revendreth :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

I really hate short night/day cycles. They just seem to make everyone suffer.

Maybe an option to let those who hate the nights, to have a daylight option. And give me darker nights!

The problem with weather effects is that they make my fans go nuts, and my build is pretty good and up to date. Fog especially, areas like Ardenweald and Emerald Dream. Vrrrrm.
So I imagine for lower builds it may cause massive FPS drops and heat.
I don’t mind a bit of rain but seems to be bugged on retail… I can hear it but I can’t see it, despite doing the console command. Saw it in classic (and nothing else).

Weather is a little inconsistent in Retail. Overworld maps, especially in the newer zones, is divided into lots of smaller areas and each one seems to have it’s own chance of weather. So, you could enter one area and see rain, then move a couple of feet into another named sub-area and the weather vanishes. When weather was first introduced back in Vanilla (I think?) the various weather FX were zone-wide.

If you’re hearing weather and not seeing it I would also suggest changing your graphic options, some weather is locked behind specific options.

It’s not an ideal fix, but https://www.wowhead.com/item=170380/jar-of-sunwarmed-sand will get you a couple of hours worth of daylight.

Do you happen to know which ones?

Inky Black potion from darkmoon faire can help with that, it’s cheap and has 2h duration, stacks up to 200 so very easy to use.

Not quite what I’m after but I’m well aware of the potions. Have had to use them in Bastion to escape the never ending bright day.

It’s not the same as a proper dark night. Best dark night I’ve seen in game is when you have overlapping events. Had Fyrakk event and one of the others, probably a storm and the place was proper dark. Was amazing.

That’s the kind of thing I’d like to be able to opt in with settings. A proper dark night, with all the lights doing their glow thing. It’s fab.
