Let's talk centaurs

The WoW centaurs are supposedly based on the culture and styled after the once great Mongolian empire. Did Genghis Khan massacre 13% of Earth’s population by being a peaceloving, ancestor-praising, hunt obsessed NOMAD with a TRUSTY BAKAAR?

Why don’t these guys ever go conquering?

Probably because they are the usual one dimensional cardboard cutout characters that Blizz loves to create.

Look at the storyline that relates to them. Theres one whole interlude where one brags they hunted more than the other and the other one nasally whines about how it was only little stuff the other killed.

Hard to move from that to conquering in a story arc.

They did. In Kalimdor. But if you look to the leaders of the peaceful clans and the aggressive ones, you’ll be penalized for noticing a pattern.

Based not means the same
Besides, conquering is one thing, but they promoted inter-state relations through the so-called “Pax Mongolica” — the Mongolian Peace. Having conquered an enormous territory in Asia, the Mongols were able to guarantee the security and safety of travelers
At the time of Genghis Khan in the 13th century, virtually every religion had found converts, from Buddhism to Eastern Christianity and Manichaeanism to Islam. To avoid strife, Genghis Khan set up an institution that ensured complete religious freedom, though he himself was a Tengrist. Under his administration, all religious leaders were exempt from taxation, and from public service. Mongol emperors were known for organizing competitions of religious debates among clerics, and these would draw large audiences.

So as you can see, the Mongol Empire main goal was to maintian peace; - tho’ conqerors, yes, fierce fighters in the time of war and expansion.

Hunting with eagles — known as berkutchi — is an ancient practice still used in remote regions.
Mongolia’s ~6,000 years of tradition are heavy with hunter traditions, important part of their culture and history. The Maruuk Centaur are not obsessed, just that is their lifestyle. How about your country?

Mongolian shamanism revolves around the worship of the “Tngri” (Ancestor spirits) and devotion to “Father sky” otherwise known as “Tenger” or “Qormusta Tengri” in Mongolian. In the Mongolian folk religion, Genghis Khan is considered one of the embodiments, if not the main embodiment, of the Tenger spirit.

The Mongol Empire emerged from the unification of several nomadic tribes in the Mongol homeland. Today, about 30% of the country`s population is still leading nomadic lifestyle all over the country

On the Mongolian steppe, there are predators, there are prey, and there are the bankhar. The Mongolian dog aka. the Bankhar are large, athletic, protective, and need comparatively little food for their size. These large, powerful dogs weigh up to 125 pounds, with shaggy, thick coats that give them a bear-like appearance. They are perfectly adapted to the intense ecosystems of Mongolia. For 15,000 years, bankhar dogs have been the guardians of the steppe.

“What our ancestors used to tell us, and what our elders used to say to us, and what we believe in the community, is that having a bankhar is spiritually beneficial,” says traditional nomadic herder Nasantsetseg Battulga, through a translator. “There are four people in my household but, if we add our two bankhars, we consider ourselves a family of six,”

What do you want to conquer on the Dragon Isles?
It was basically only habited by:
Dragons - who went away, and they made peace
Djaradin - who were the Dragons, and by treaty, the Centaur’s enemy, but their homeland is a hostile vulcanic area, nothing there the Maruuk Centaur would need
A few Gnoll and a few Tuskarr on places that are again, basically useless to the Centaur and they have nothing worthy of taking. The Tuskarr probbaly even just wave to the army and invite them to have a diner, would share what they have while the only thing you could take from the Gnoll is probably rabies

BUT if you really want to compare them to the Mongol Empire? By the time of Kublai’s death in 1294, the Mongol Empire had fractured into separate khanates.
This is similar what happened with the Centaur
When the Burning Legion invaded Azeroth, the ancient centaur clans fought and died until the hero Maruuk emerged and slaughtered the invaders. However, the other clan leaders feared Maruuk’s strength and betrayed him, leading to him and his partner Teera rejecting the clans and setting out across Kalimdor in search of a new home. Many centaur were inspired by their honor and followed them, forming a new clan. Ohn’ahra, the Wild God of the Wind, guided the centaur on their journey until, after months of wandering, they reached what is now the Ohn’ahran Plains on the Dragon Isles. The Emerald Gardens bordering the plains were already inhabited by the green dragonflight, who were initially hostile toward their new neighbors and fought with the centaur over territory. Teera—who had taken up leadership of the Maruuk—met the dragons’ leader Merithra in battle, but they soon realized that they were evenly matched and instead allied with each other against hostile proto-dragons that threatened both of their peoples. Teera and Merithra then made a pact, promising that the Maruuk and the dragons would stay out of each others’ way but come to the aid of the other in times of need. Clans rose and fell over the years, but they maintained relative peace among themselves and the dragons. The centaur clans are deeply connected to the land, maintaining their traditions.

Martek the Exiled is shown surrounded by three female admirers and a male admirer, collectively referred to as “hot babes.” Martek rescues one of the admirers and they later share a “tender moment” on his motorcycle, regardless of which admirer the player chose - Orc from Cataclysm… check.
In the romance novel a Steamy Romance Novel: Hot and Misty, it’s implied that Kama the Beast Tamer’s life-mate is another woman. - Pandaren, it is from Mists

in the Maruuk Centaur we seen… two couples; Hunter Narman and Windsage Dawa—both male—prepare marriage proposals for each other. And Farrier Roscha was betrothed to another woman.

As for the Mongol comparison
Genghis Khan banned homosexual acts in the Mongol Empire and made them punishable by death. Thats true. But Experts at the Research Institute of Ancient Mongolian Laws and Sociology said the ban was put into place because the Khan hoped to expand the Mongolian population which was about 1.5 million at the time, while the rival Song Dynasty, which dominated today’s central China, was 100 million strong
Before that, not really bothered anyone and the fact, he had to take actions means, it was quite popular to the point the Khan had to “step in” so to speak.

That’s a bit disingenuous to give a random % without giving context, it was 13% of the population back then when the earth wasn’t nearly as populated as it is now.

But to answer the original question, it’s simple they’re the sons of a giant boulder and a deer, what do you expect?

Khm… Unlike any other Empires, the Mongolian Empire had freedom of religion.

Just had to add it.

The real question tho is, if we get them as a playable race, can we equip TWO PAIRS OF BOOTS ??

Are those Khans in Maldraxxus the souls of centaurs that massacred some worlds I wonder.

So much missed potentional in SL.

I want to know how there even are any centaurs on the dragon isles? They’ve been there, in that tiny zone for over 10000 years, inbreeding. They should have gone extinct quite some time ago.

Clear out your own bigotry before you use that word on others. Unless you like being a hypocrite that is.

Tiny One of the largest zones and that’s prob even scaled down from lore
