Level locking

I am leveling up another char and I read something about level locking. Is there a point to doing this? Are there benefits? Is it because at level 60 certain quests are no longer available?

Heya again

Low level quests are always available to max level characters (unless they’re removed entirely from the game). The main reason people exp lock (and mind you, I don’t think this is common to begin with), is to experience older content “as intentended” and not being massively outleveld for it.
This used to be a larger use-case back before the levels-squish and standardising of most level ranges (back when max level was 120, each expansion had it’s own 10-level bracket), and some very small groups even level locked to do old raids the way they were intended to at the respective level.

However, nowadays this is no longer as viable/feasbile, and the main use case I see is from a handful of people wanting to quest through older zones at an appropriate powerlevel. As mentioned though, these are very few and far between

Hope this helps!

It sure helps! I forgot to mention that at a certain level, you can’t access chromie anymore, but I can’t find what level that is. I would like to get some achievements from older zones and some loremasters but I guess I don’t need chromie for that. Thanks again Kerrosh, I so appreciate your replies:)

That’s correct, and nothing to worry about. Chromie time is available until lvl 60, but all Chromie does is stretch content from it’s original level range to scale all the way from 10-60 so you can level in just one expansion, rather than having to hop around. Chromie does not remove or add any content, it just changes scaling

I’ve been using level-locking in the last couple of weeks while trying to finish Loremaster.

This is partly so that I can keep the same character because normally you level so fast in the current state. There is also the side issue of the quest that asks you to weaken a mob before doing something. This only happened to me once, in Dragonblight, but as a high-level character it was a serious nuisance to work around it, for some reason the foam sword didn’t work, tho’ I don’t recall why now.

Eh while you can so access chromie time it has the drawback that you can not so access bonus reputation from Time Walk Weeks so for Rep gain you would be better off doing Add-on content on Level 60+ during the fitting timewalkweek.
