Hello, as title says it all, i wanna level a char for Wotlk.
I am aware Firemaw is the only option for those who want to be on a PvP server, but its locked. Should i just wait they unlock/fix Firemaw and Pvp servers state (my friends are on Firemaw), or knowing blizz wont do anything just level on Gehennas or Golemagg.
Which one would be better for levelling experience you guys think?
Thanx in advance
After almost 3 years of WoW Classic it is some next-level Stockholm syndrom stuff to think that Blizzard would fix anything unless the house is already burnt down to the ground.
Locking the server is Blizzards solution to the Firemaw situation. I wouldn’t bet any money on a follow up of them.
If Dungeon spamming is again a thing there won’t be much difference between the servers. If its not than open-world leveling I guess Golemagg is better. Endgame likely Gehennas.
Gehennas is practically unaffected by periodic population declines that usually happen towards end of each phase. The population is so big that you won’t notice that. Also server that big is practically unaffected by individual guilds moving away in case. However, I can almost guarantee that Gehennas will have queues in Wotlk, not the Firemaw-size queues but still.
You will definitely feel the end-phase declines on Golemagg and also risk the server will die in the future. It takes just 2-3 big guilds to decide to migrate (which you can’t do anything about) to condemn a server that is not megaserver, to death even if it has like 8k pop (historical data prove that). The good thing is you won’t ever face queues.
I’d say Golemagg is your best bet if you want to play consistently without queues in WOTLK. Gehennas specially at the first few phases will face similar login issue to firemaw as it’s already a largest single faction server in EU. Things will only get worse.
Now doom and gloom sayers are saying but what happens if Golemagg dies. Golemagg has nearly 6000 active raiders. That’s more than enough people to consider server as quite healthy. Sure it’s not mega server level, but there are a lot of people raiding in this server. Back in original days we haven’t even had 6000 people per server possible. Just few things for perspective.
Noggenfogger had 4500 active raiders and died.
Razorgore had 6000 active raiders and died.
Ashbringer had 5000 active raiders and is soon to die.
Mograine had 8000 active raiders and is soon to die.
You insist on your statement? I don’t say population on Golemagg isn’t healthy. But from historical data and general contemporary megaserver mentality, Golemagg is in in danger of dying in later Wotlk phases.
There is one difference that is in Golemagg’s favor. Before, all refugees from smaller servers fled to megaservers namely Firemaw and Gehennas. With Firemaw being locked thus out of question completely, and Gehennas being in danger of queues, Golemagg might become a “close second” pick for many players possibly saving it from dying. However, a damn lot of players would have to actually do the migration to Golemagg and not only consider it, to become effective.
I’d say it’s best to watch the trends. If in the upcoming 2-3 months Golemagg shows continuous growth, it might be the best server to pick as Horde. If the trend is rather fluctuating, or even declining, Gehennas might be a safer bet.
I play on horde on golemagg and I’ve seen far more alliance action (at all levels) in recent weeks than previous months.
I’d wager quite a few have migrated across from firemaw and newcomers looking for a pvp server where there is some representation of their faction have found golemagg the only option coz firemaw is locked.
