After a long time I’ve returned to classic to play cata. However I’m currently on Eathshaker and it’s a ghost town due to free migration.
Now my question is do you think it’s wise to just level on this dead server till I’m high enough to raid or will the free transfer close? I’m planning on a quiet uninterrupted levelling experience while using dungeon finder.
Is this a good idea or will there be hidden implications being empty?
You would not have to fight for quest mobs and ressources that´s for sure. On the other hand, I don´t know how crowded a “popular” realm would be with the layer system and whatnot.
There’s that I suppose but I cannot see much of an influx of players scrapping for mobs. Gathering professions would be a big help but being a skinner like myself not so much. I think maybe I’ll get a head start on levelling then swap over (if still open)
i recently logged back in to wotlk (now cata) only to find that my realm (Mograine) was devoid of any horde players, so im basically in the same boat as you. Not to sure what to do as the free transfer options are not so appealing (Gehennas, Firemaw and some 3rd realm)
If you dont use the free transfer, you will get moved onto whatever server Blizzard decide once they merge/delete your old server.
Yeah Firemaw seems to be the in place for the alliance which is where I intend to land.
Will they give a warning for that you think, or will they just nip it in the bud when they feel like?
What is the point of staying on Earthshaker? If you are going to use RDF, the crowded zones in the megarealms won’t matter. And you will have access to more variety in the AH.
I think Blizzard will give a little notice before they enforce transfers - I expect this to be 3-4 weeks.
Firemaw is the only choice for Alliance sadly.
I’m clutching at straws dps queues will be long so being able to quest without stacks of people is a bonus.

I’m going to run the risk. I can’t imagine they’ll close them immediately on release.
they said AFTER CATACLYSME start in the blue post so my guess is 1 or 2 weeks later .
many players are comming back and they dont want to lock them up at cata start
But they should write a server message imo on my server many players are comming back and DONT even know the server is closing
I’m on nethergarde which I think is high and no issue with mobs and stuff. Mostly dungeon leveling tho 
Sometime after the 20th of May, the servers will be closed and merged. If you wait until then, a merge target will be selected for you and you won’t be able to choose. I assume this will happen before raids open, to prevent realm first cheesing.
So you should move before then.
Otherwise, there’s probably nothing on the auction house.
Transfer off as soon as possible. Trusting Blizzard to make additional announcement isn’t a good idea as they are notorious for their incosistent communication.
