LFG after playing on private server

I recently played on a private server to see which class i would enjoy most for wrath, and after getting very close to preraid BiS largely through the dungeon finder, i thought i could give a recent perspective on the pro’s/con’s of LFG.

For leveling group finder is AMAZING. Being able to que while questing is great, it leads to being able to do way more dungeons than you otherwise would be able to. On top of that the end of dungeon xp bonus + the reduction in travel time making levelling faster, which i feel is sorely needed for wotlk classic. With WoW classic not being a growing game like TBC was it’s very hard to find levelling groups outside of the biggest servers, so i really feel even if they remove LFG for level 80’s they should put it in until level 70 at least.

At max level group finder is so covenant, but at the end of the gearing process, i can definitely see the downsides. Throughout this entire process i haven’t made a single friend from LFG, and basically all the people on the LFG come from my server on this private server. When gearing in classic vanilla i made a lot of friends, and joined my guild. When doing the same in TBC classic, and on a private server before TBC i added a lot of people to help make groups to farm heroics etc. If i met a good tank/healer (or even dps), there was a strong incentive to add them.

For me personally i think LFG is probably a net negative for my game experience as friends/guildies are what make me enjoy this game. That being said i feel like i’m probably not in the majority in this regard. I’m fairly social, and happy to make groups, and ask people to add me. I also play on a medium population server where i know 80% of the guilds on my server, and have friends across a lot of them. I feel like there is a solid sense of community on my server even if it dimished in TBC.

i think if fall into any of the below categories, you may not make friends either way, so removing LFG will probably just be bad for you:

Playing on a dead/low pop server - have to make friends i assume, but LFG would be a god send to these servers.
Playing exclusively with guild/close group of friends. Especially in elite guild.
Not a very social player, don’t want to add people/make groups
playing on a mega server.

I feel like the above 4 groups of players may well cover at least half the player base, so i feel like there will be strong trade off’s whatever blizzard decide. I do feel like the exception is levelling though, where it’s just clearly such an improvement.

Hey this is another case of “Don’t like it, don’t use it” but it seems that Blizzard doesn’t share this point of view.

It’s so convenient, i’m obviously going to use it if it’s there. Also it’s very existience makes any form of alternative play much harder, as it near kills the LFG channel. If you were to remove it, it would be about protecting players from themselves in some ways.

Okay, players on dead/dying servers are not getting help in form of LFD tool. Can we assume that something better is being tinkered to solve population problems?

Blizzard have in their minds already “fixed” this with paid transfers.
You get to pay them to have this issue fixed.

If so, why are bulk transfers not available to TBCC? They can’t even milk desperate players properly. Wouldn’t it be better if players paid-transfered multiple characters at discounted price instead of 1 main character only for full price?

Because that doesn’t force you to spend as much as transfers 1 by 1.
Of course making you pay more money is better in Blizzards eyes.
You’re not a valued costumer. You’re a wallet.
They. Do. Not. Care.

Why not make it only 15-79 then? Or even 15-70? Removing it outright reeks of either gross incompetence or outright malice.

This is’nt. As soon as the path of least resistance is launched, no one will use the chat to make a group, anymore. The teleport to dungeon is far too convenient to not be used.

Each time i see someone complaining about the fact it’s removed, people tend to talk about low pop realm, but group finder is just a bandaid, not a solution. The solution was to move out when you could. Now it would be to merge servers, even if it destroys some of the servers identities.

From private server experience I can assure you there will always be players looking for premades to queue with. The reasons are simple. You get faster invites and with a well coordinated and geared group you will finish the dungeon much faster. You can even divide loot the way you want, like gearing an alt for his offspec, while queuing with the main spec. The teleport will be used of course, since premade groups will use it to get to the dungeon, instead of sending 2 players there to port the rest.

I had a different private server experience. People were grouping and used Group finder after only for Ports and Badges. Path of least resistance. They only were grouping manually because if everyone tagued when they wanted, no one found a dungeon since there was never enough people to fill all roles in the queue. XD

You just didn’t talk to people, then? That’s your own fault, mate. Just join a guild and spam LFD with them while on voicechat for a good time.

this is that group of people i listed, that just play with guildies/friends anyway.

ill let ian know mate,ty for feedback, blizz Gm here btw
