I am sooo bored of the meatball spam aesthetic. I dont want to play a pseudo fire mage I want to play elemental shaman. We have chain lightning which especially with stormkeeper is so much fun to use and looks awesome!
Please for the love of god dont nerf stormbringer and buff farseer making us play yet another expansion of meatball spam. I want a a solid LIGHTNING focused build something that actually feels unique to shaman. Lightning bolt feels like it hasnt had its base damage updated in eons either lol especially with the nerf to overloads it feels like a waste of time.
Im guessing they keep it low so it doesnt make stormkeeper too broken or something but thats no excuse for it having such pitiful base damage.
I think these changes are only meant for Enha.
For Ele, they are only temporary because they are thinking about how to fix the damage of our stormbringer, which is too far behind Farseer.
Primordial Fury is a problem. Increasing our critical strike damage by 25% moves the arrow from Mastery to Critical Strike even more. Most importantly, it is much more useful with Farseer because the crit is assured by LvB on Flame Shock. If Primordial Fury was Stormbringer’s only, it would close the gap with Farseer.

UNLIMITED POWER (Reworked Talent)
If Surge of Power is active, and you cast Tempest, increases you critical strike damage by an additionnal 20% for 12 sec.
STORM CALLER (Reworked Talent)
Increases the critical strike change of your Nature Damage spells by 10% and the critical strike damage of your Nature spells by 10%.
Unlimited Power essentially provides the same effect as Primordial Fury and solves the problem of having to consume Surge of Power with Tempest as Tempest replaces Lightning.
Storm Caller only received a 5% buff on critical strike damage.
FURY OF THE STORM (New Reworked Talent)
Your Nature damage critical strikes increase your movement speed by 10% for 6 sec.
Slowing enemies can be a problem in certain situations, Fury of the Storm provides an alternative.
STORM SWELL (Reworked Talent)
When Tempest strikes one or two targets, gain 30 Maelstrom.
ARC DISCARGE (Reworked Talent)
When Tempest strikes more than two targets, have a 25% change to have another Tempest.
Storm Swell and ArcDiscarge, were a tricky choice for Elemental. Now I think they’re more in tune.
ROLLING THUNDER (Reworked Talent)
Summon a powerful Lightning Elemental to fight by your side for 10 sec every 50 sec.
Tracking Stormkeeper procs is a problem, with this change to Rolling Thunder we no longer have to worry about it. And it’s a themed effect.
NATURE’S PROTECTION (Reworked Talent)
Targets struck by your Nature damage critical strikes deal 5% less damage to you for 6 sec.
Nature’s Protection and Surging Currents have been changed to be available more often.
SURGING CURRENTS (Reworked Talent)
After you score a critical hit, your next Chain Heal or Healing Surge will be instant cast and consume no mana.
VOLTAIC SURGE (Reworked Talent)
The damage dealt by your Earth Shock, Elemental Blast and Earthquake’s Elemental Overload now is at 100% effectiveess.
AWAKENING STORMS (Reworked Talent)
Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightnning have a 20% change to generate a stack of Fulmination, up to 10 stacks. Every stack grants you 0,5% haste. Your next Tempest consume all stack and gain 1% increases dammage for every stack.
What if there was a choice node where you could choose to be either fire or lightning. Or by not picking the choice node a hybrid. And once picked it would swap some of your core abilities like flame shock into static shock, lava burst into lightning burst etc and in reverse picking fire would swap your lightning abilities into fire ones like lightning bolt into flame shot, lightning shield into magma shield etc. I mean that could be one way.
With Tempest being not interactible with our instant cast (Stormkeeper) mechanic, it was quite obvious that the hero spec was not designed for Elemental shamans. Its quite clunky in aoe dps aswell. It was really painful to play with on the beta.
tbh there is always a “meta” or a most optimised way to play a character, and they decided that Farseer is for Elemental, Stormbringer is for Enhancement, and Totemic is for Restoration.
This is also the case for most specs not only a shaman thing.
I agree that Stormbringer was designed around enhancement. This is evident in how the build performs, and the numbers speak for themselves.
1.Tempest on Elemental deals about 4-5% of damage, whereas on an enhancement build, a pure lightning build can potentially be among the top three in damage due to critical hits.
2. In terms of gameplay relevance, it’s clear that Tempest is more of a burden than a pleasure to cast because it disrupts the rotation and, for better or worse, it activates very rarely, similar to a proc from a trinket.
3. Although on paper they wanted to maintain the three identities of fire, lightning, and mixed, in reality, they killed fire and lightning. Instead, it has become a mix leaning towards one of the two elements, which I really can’t stand.
4. Connecting to point three, fire is much more distinctive because with Fire Ascendance, Elemental Fire Shock, and Lightning Bolt being a filler, you will use it very little compared to a lightning build. Like it or not, Flame Shock and Lava Burst will be in your top four damage abilities.
5. Poor design since it was thought for enhancement. Now, every nerf to enhancement also affects elemental, making an already underperforming single-target build even less viable. If people made a bit more effort and watched some videos, they would see that the fire build is also superior in AoE.
6. Corrections: like many others, I believe the only way to make the gameplay enjoyable and distinctive is to replace Tempest with Lava Burst as a selectable spell. This would make Tempest have charges, a cooldown, and a cast time. Instead of using Flame Shock to make it instant, you would use Lightning Rod, giving the chance for every 15% damage dealt by the rod to make Tempest instant and critical.
Only time will tell how the shaman will fare. Is it viable? Certainly, the Farseer fire build is top in single-target and AoE damage. If you want to play a pure lightning build, perhaps it is better to go enhancement to have that experience. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself spamming Lava Burst endlessly to ramp up the damage of the spender and using Surge of Power for Lightning Bolt overloads, which still do less damage than Lava Burst. In the end, you’ll find yourself as a damned weaver.
Indeed this whole cross-spec hero talent thing does not bode well for this expansion. It will be pretty much impossible to balance stuff that affects multiple specs properly, at least for the classes that have multiple specs of the same role that dont use completely different abilities form each other
They just need to buff the mealstrom gain from lightning spells and lightning builds will be good
Can you tell me what the lightning build is? As of today, can you tell me what the rotation of the lightning build is?
I believe that as of today, there is no lightning build since the lightning is a weaver.
