Lightning Shield

So what are your thoughts on lightning shield? Iconic shaman ability for us but somewhat useless? Resto have a nice mana regen on water shield/ earth shield for healing etc. Yes we can spec into earth shield for some extra self healing but have to spec talents to attain it. I feel it should do something more, a slight buff so it actually has some use for raiding/mythic plus. Atm it just feels a bit useless in those instances and blizzard could to do more to address this (and shamans in general)

As far as I know we spec into earth shield 100% of the time. Lightning shield is just not worth using. Don’t put it out on your bars.

Eh, its less useless than it’s been in the past, its okay-ish for elemental with the 5 maelstrom generation, and VERY noticable on enh with the 50% chance for 1 mw, both very welcome in solo content.

Its kinda impossible to make it useful in group content, what do you expect them to do, give shamans a taunt so we can taunt Sire Denathrius for LS value? Only way to give it value in group content would be to give it some passive stat like 5% haste while its up, which would again change nothing in shaman gameplay, just make it even more important to not forget to refresh ls.
In general, keeping up buffs has never been an exciting part of any spec’s gameplay. Why do you want power shifted onto them? Then there would be whine threads about how its obnoxious having to refresh LS every now and then, but its such a huge loss if you forget to.

Also -doesnt change anything but just throwing that out there- water shield’s passive mana regen is unbelievably laughable. It restores 10 mana per second. One hs costs 2400 mana. Water shield gives you 1 extra heal every 4 minutes. Not exactly a game-changing, super useful spell that makes LS pale in comparison. Only shield that actually matters and is worth pressing mid-fight is Earth Shield. The rest are there 50% for the effect and 50% for the flavor-nostalgia-cosmetic appearance.

It’s perfectly fine as a fire-and-forget button. I’d understand if this was an actual CD that formed some part of a rotation, but it’s not much different from, say, a Paladin Aura. You apply it and forget about it for the most part, switching to another only if necessary.

As resto, I might pop it in situations where mana isn’t prevalent and I know enemies will be hitting me (eg. World Quests or Levelling which doesn’t require mana management), and I’m fine with that because we’ve already got 90 million buttons to consider.

Delete the talent, make a new passive like ‘your spells have a x% chance to electrocute enemies with your shield charge’ or something like that. It will be worth pressing the button and we will have a slot for new talents that’s now occupied by a dead one.

I liked the old version, where you generated charges from taking and dealing damage, then consume them to gain a buff or to buff an ability.

Something along the lines of casting Stormstrike or Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning generating a charge, stacking to 20. Then having them be consumed for a 20% haste increase for 10 seconds as Enhance or a 30% increase to Earth Shock/Earthquake as Elemental.

I’d also be open to a PvP talent that temporarily massively increases the splashback damage, like Thorns.

Useless? No, it’s plenty useful for MW stack generation. In solo content that is or Torghast.

What it needs is ability to cast it on someone else, a tank let’s say and not just self.
That way we could do two things at once, boost Enhance dmg in group content and have a great MW generation tool in group content as we have in solo.

Earth Shield is not worth it generally, since one MW Surge heals to full so that extra 15% is kinda worthless (Hailstorm build).
