List of GREAT THINGS Legion introduced

-Artefact weapons, best borrowed power system in the game with a SPEC SPECIFIC unique ability and a brand new talent tree to upgrade with an AP system that, for all it’s flaws, actually got fixed.

-Artefact Weapon Appearances, of all the borrowed systems legion is were people come back and farm the appearances. Those appearances were some of the best in the game and they struck a perfect balance of availability and difficulty to get. Every type of content got some to unlock, so whatever your prefered content was you could get some with some unique colors for the best of the best players in each categories.

-Orders halls. Who cares about covenants ? Every single class get their own base of operation, full of famous characters of this class and little secrets like the dark ranger headpiece for the hunters or the pet reward of the shaman mini game.

-Class templates in pvp, disliked at the time but all the tears about gear imbalance in pvp makes me think many miss it.

-Peak Spec identy: remember when all spec had to share a talent tree? Well with Legion everyone gets their own talent tree with great spec reworks like pirate rogue or survival hunter which finally becomes something more than “like all the other hunters, but bad.”

-Great lore: we fight a villain we actually care about, the mess that was TBC lore gets fixed without retcon by simply giving more context to it. Or even Suramar, what a great zone. We finally go to Argus aswell, like can you see how crazy this is ? “Here is an ENTIRE PLANET, have fun.”

-Tons of content: 77 days patch cycle, with intermediairy patches that actually gave content. Like the class mounts for example, people still go back to unlock those on their alts.

-Some of the best raids in the game’s history, we finally go to the nightmare, we see Illidan disenchanting Gul’Dan in the Nighthold, tomb of sargeras which pretty much had two end bosses and Antorus with Argus. Oh Argus, you ascend to the thrones of the pantheon, surronded by literal gods while you fight a god too with a banger of a theme music in the background.

-Introduced m+: casually creates a brand new form of high end play, something which hadn’t been done since TBC added arenas.

-Allied races: Introduced in 8.3.5, legion was so generous in content than in a half patch it introduce a brand new concept of playable race with four of them.

-Actual worldbuilding: through the stories of the order halls we got to see the entire world of Azeroth and see how it changed since last time we went there. For example, the whole thing with Bolvar was introduced in the DK campaign.

-Class campaigns: speaking of which, Shadowlands ? 4 campaigns. BFA ? 2 Campaigns. Legion ? 12. 3 times more than SL and 6 times more than BFA. And every single one of them is about your class, the most important thing about your character, with a story tailor made for it filled with moments only a true fan of their class can appreciate. Like in the dh one when Kil’Jaeden appears before the Slayer in his giant ghostly form, offering the dh to join him in a scene reminescent of his pact with Illidan back in the Frozen Throne.

-Demon Hunter: probably the most demanded class since the game released legion finally delivers, with it’s record of popularity through highs and lows the dh class is probably one of if not the most succesful new class added to the game. And what an entry it did ! A brand new zone offering a new perspective on the Black Temple raid and a story filled with lore and cinematics.

-Removed chi and stances from mistweaver monk :fishing_pole_and_fish:

I agree with most of that.

What’s with all the positive threads all of a sudden though?

I’ve sacrificed everything. What have you given?

Bloodletter ?

Legion…

Amazing OST, great zones & lore, awesome artifacts, raids you care about and the cherry on top the Demon Hunter! <3 Oh, and let’s not forget the Broken Shore intro where Gul’dan summons that huge army of demons that was a cool way to start! (+ the pre-patch event)

People can harp on about legendaries and the AP grind but whatever I had a blast!

I’m afraid it wouldn’t be the same anymore  it’s like rewatching shows with story lines leading nowhere and a crappy ending you know is coming. But maybe in a few years who knows

It’s tastes and all that but as a long time player, Legion was the 1st and only expansion I genuinely quit. I can’t even tell you one single thing that I enjoyed in that god forsaken expansion. At least it’s nice to know some people liked it (althought I can’t understand why).

Artefacts and their AP being spec-specific was the second worst thing about Legion 7.0 right after legendaries being random. It effectively hard-locked you into a spec for the entire tier unless you REALLY liked running Maw of Souls a couple hundred times. Sure, it got fixed, but we shouldn’t forget how miserable it was on launch.

Iv’e had 5 major problems with legion that would have elevated it from good to great expansion.

1: Artifact power not account wide
2: Titanforging not backed by valor, so getting a non titanforge felt bad.
3: Legendaries aquisition completely rng, about the only thing that shadowlands does better is leggo acquisition.
4: Artifacts not becoming the progression system that lasts a long time, maybe even till the end of wow, instead we play this game of give and take, while we mostly lose, covenants and azerite are not even close to being as good as artifacts, while the devs worry about “ability bloat”, give me a break, there are so many things you could add, frankly it makes me laugh when i hear that, like do you really think that? Or is that just an excuse for some other thing?
5: Legion should have been a 2 part expansion, one part of azeroth one on argus, what i mean is that they should have made 2 expansions called legion, this would have given them more time to properly develop argus and give it the respect it deserved, imagine if mac aree wasn’t just a skybox but an actual city, like surumar, maybe even better!

That’s about it, overall legion was still way better than bfa or shadowlands. The only problem that wow has is the development of the game as it currently stands, they are the one throttling the fun for some problem they perceive, like get out, please just get out. The latest “interview” made it even more clear to me, watching it… Honestly it seems like preach was about to explode, but if he did, that would have accomplished nothing anyway, he would have been called bad, no more interviews, but honestly, does it really matter?

If you really think about it we already know what the devs think, i knew, i pretty much expected exactly what Ion was about to tell, people are just holding out hope, and they do that by deluding themselves that they don’t actually understand what the devs want to do, but it’s pretty clear from the actions they take in the development of the game.

The only problem wow has is a development problem. That’s about it.

There were some absolutely facepalm worthy comments from ion in that interview, like damn…

Let’s see:
It had the best form of shadow priest gameplay in my opinion

I liked the legendaries, didn’t like how you obtained them

Artifact weapons were incredibly cool, especially my knife that talked to me once in a while and gave lore hints as well

Order halls were amazing too with their own campaigns

The raids were absolutely fantastic

I liked pretty much all the zones that we got up until 7.3, didn’t like argus that much except for mac’aree

M+ was actually fun

The mage tower obviously

It would have been a 10/10 in my opinion if legendaries were purchaseable from the get go

That’s the problem with WoW community and Ion’s take on the game. Ion tries to homogenize WoW player types to one category doing everything so they will rate WoW in the same way. I think it’s bad because WoW community is actually few small communities that coexist in the same game. For example for lore fans Legion was amazing, for PvE players - WoD had the best raids, for M+ fans Legion was great as it introduced it to the game, for PvP player MoP was the best as it had the most fun gameplay. As Arena player myself I didn’t like Legion that much back then due to pruning and that design of my class was boring - all utility was scrapped. It’s a bit funny that even though BFA resolved the problem that made me not enjoy Legion I’d rate it worse for everything else.

You can’t say that Legion sucked from your perspective and force that opinion on a different player because he was focused on different part of the game.

That’s why I actually preferred Tom Chilton’s take on the game. Instead of focusing only on raiders but then on different group of raiders from LFR, Normal, Heroic to Mythic players sacrificing others like Ion he tried to focus more on every group.

This is the example of it. Tom cared even for such minority as arena players while Ion’s team treats us like 2nd category customers.

While I agree with a lot of points OP said I don’t agree that you can say that 1 expansion was bad and other was good and then force it to others as there are too many subgroups of players to have one universal opinion. For me for example Cataclysm was great time as I remember it as the best iteration of Enhancement Shaman I ever played while for someone it might be garbage because first raid tier was a mess and Artramedes wasn’t even killable unless you exploited the fight.

Heck no. Get outta here with that system, it was abysmal.

Not really, while it worked for some specs – that’s only because they were revamped entirely. Arms was horrendous identity-wise and it’s still not recovered from that.

-Demon Hunter Class I’ll agree with, though the class design is a bit shallow and it feels like half a class to me.

I think it would have been good to split the queue between templates and unscaled.

Legion was ok expansion, not excellent and not bad.

I think the best thing that was introduced back then was the M+, Magetower and Artifact weapons.

What I don’t like about it is ruining my BRM forever. Still waiting for the day when they decide to bring MOP Brewmaster if that ever happens.

I think legion is a could have been great expansion, but as it is, it’s a good expansion. Certainly way better than bfa or shadow.

That would kill queue timers.

also brought M+ which to this day is one of my favorite things ever added into the game alongside arenas. Dungeons were also extremely fun (except for Seat).

Legion was great and the systems worked during it, but for some reason some angry Legion haters bash the expansion for what BfA and Shadowlands did for these systems and for ruining them.
