Does anybody know is ‘Lithanials’ Guide to Moonkin Tanking v1.1’ is available archived anywhere now the old forums are gone?

I have been off-tanking Kara as balance spec the last few weeks and am just wanting to see if there’s anything I could be doing better on various fights. In particular:

  1. Is there are any recommendations on striking a balance between mitigation gear (which is often feral stats) and threat gear (which is often cloth). I’ve been trying to get PVP gear but that’s slooow progress.

  2. How important are the spell pushback talent Celestial Focus (CF)? I dropped them in favour of a cookie-cutter dps spec since my dps was low when not tanking, but I’m wondering if I do need them after all. I miss out on 1 point in Subtley, Force of Nature (FoN), and 1 point in Wrath of Cenarius (WoC), or 2 points in WoC and I keep FoN, if I take CF.

  3. In what scenarios is bear form with bear gear going to be better than moonkin tanking, even though I’m balance spec? Netherspite is one example - are there others?

P.s. If anybody is wondering why you would offtank kara as balance, it’s because most fights you don’t need an offtank and balance is preferable to feral for dps. (Plus it reduces respec costs from playing balance in 25 mans)

Lol balance druid tank. First time in my life i hear about that but yea in theory it was always possible.

On point 2 i can help a bit, Spell pushback is going to lower your overall threat, so you need to try and reduce it as much as you can.

Dps warrior putting on a shield for the 1% in kara that requires an OT is great too.

Actually thinking about it, what else besides netherspite needs an OT? And do you tank netherspite as a boomie?

Most if not all cases.
You might be able to reach bear levels of armour, but while casting you have 0% avoidance so essentially you are a really garbage tank for anything but meme’ing.
My bear for instance has about 40% dodge self-buffed.
Even if you hit the same armour levels, you’d be taking 60% more damage than a similarly geared bear.
The DTPS will be very, very high as you rely purely on high armour.
Not to mention, you don’t have any high threat abilities to use, so you’re all relying on your usual rotation.

There’s some frost caster skeletons on the way to opera that apparently need to be tanked separately, one of the elementals on shade if they can’t all be cced, and the imp. Also tonight I’m off tanking for a warrior who doesn’t have TunderFury and we have no priest so I’m expecting to have to tank sonething on Moroes. Will see.

For netherspite I do the green portals in boomkin form to keep faire fire up as mucg as possible before mana goes and red portal in bear form. Since red portal gives you unlimited threat, lack of feral talents doesn’t matter.

All our dps warriors are offtanking other kara groups, as are our cat focused druids. We do have a ret paladin who is not off-tanking though.

Ah well we 1 tanked the frost skeletons and teron’s imp quite alright our last raid.
Elementals on aran ended up killing my healer but we had 2 locks so that wasn’t the fault of no offtank.
I think our warrior only put on a shield for netherspite and dps’d the rest but i’m not 100% on that because I’m always high.

Yeh. Turns out you can 1 tank the skeltons if you have 2 shaman for grounding totem. I ended up only tanking netherspite.
