Topic. I’m on SSD, specific for WOW only. But with this latest SL pre-patch, loading takes so long…
Loading screens were perfectly fine for me, no difference at all.

That might be caused due to add-ons. Not the game.
Disable all of them, see if it makes a difference. If it does: happy hunting to see which ones are the offenders.

Honestly id say its your addons causing issues because I disabled mine and im on a HDD and I load in very very quickly.
I didn’t notice any difference.
I noticed a difference until I updated all my addons, some where even causing stuttering ingame.
Just try disable all addons and see if it improves, they could just be out of date or running lots of errors atm.
Even though loading the game is mostly done on the client, the client still needs data from the server. Since the servers are overloaded at the moment, it can take a bit longer for the client to receive all the data it needs to complete the loading operation.
Logging characters for first time takes longer, after that it’s fine.

How fast is your WAN throughput? There seems to be some issue where the game is restreaming all assets continually, don’t know what that’s about but it seems majorly broken, I’m sure whoever didn’t quit to work for DreamHaven is aware over at Blizz0rd

logging in to a character gives me like a 40 second load screen, but after that they’re no longer than 4-5 seconds
I’ve got more than 25% available. WAN speed about 200mpbs.
