Locked in combat

After 16 years of WoW please it is now time you fix this super annoying “stuck in combat” bug.

I have been locked in combat for ages now, have done quests, and still in combat. Cannot log out so I killed WoW, logged back in, still in combat.

I think this is a bad design that should be changed. Just because there is an NPC somewhere that has me on its threat table, does not automatically mean I am in combat. There should be checks for distance, ability to path to me, and whether or not the NPC has even hit me at least once.

Me and my buddies encountered this bug when questing through Maldraxxus on release day. We must have wasted a least an hour because we couldn’t mount up. I’m still angry to this very moment.

I know it is not ideal but you can exit program in task manager. I read here on the forum that sometimes we aggro some critters and that keeps us in combat for ages.

Find it shocking how this hasn’t been fixed yet… not having been hit by damage for the past 30 seconds, with no target, should take you out of combat… instead we’re stuck in combat with some critter that you aggro’d 200 yards away…

This has been around for ages, amongst the many other ‘bugs’, I mean features that the game has. HS does work for most but not 100% of the time, because that would be too easy

Hearthstone has never worked for me in that state.

This. Also, it’s possible to aggro inanimate objects that can be destroyed. I learned that back in Mists, when I damaged the kegs among the Hozen in one of the dailies.

That’s what OP effectively did when he “killed WoW”. That one is kind of dangerous, depending on exactly how WoW exits. If it starts to try a shutdown but doesn’t complete, it can corrupt your LUA settings, so make sure you always have a recent backup of your WTF folder.

If you do kill WoW, stay logged out for 15 minutes. That should do it. The game doesn’t seem to lose your state for a few minutes, in case you were DCed and wanted to log back in again.

If they can’t fix the design issue, my solution is a vendor item that makes you invisible, or at least stealthed. It can do so very, very slowly, over the course of maybe a minute, and only when you are standing still and taking no damage, to prevent its use in genuine combat of any kind.

Mind you, I’ve found Shadowmeld and even Invisibility to fail at getting me out of fake combat a few times, so maybe nothing is 100% here.

This is the main reason why we get stuck in combat.

And if you go south of Arom’s Stand in Drustvar and you go near the fighting NPC’s spread over the area - without doing any damage at all - you get caught in a stuck in combat forever.

This bug has been around since Vanilla…

Thanks. I never knew about quitting that way and corruption. I have done that quite a bit TBH.

I have a few rogues and shadowmeld or vanish is the only way out of it. Though sometimes feigning death while playing hunter does not always remove combat.
One other way I have done is to run and run and run until I am so far away that it goes away. Usually the other side of the zone LOL. One day we will get to the bottom of it.

Heh… Don’t be that stupid, please.
