Locks and mythicPhobia

Hello. I have been pushing some mythic for a while. I am aware of the fact that locks are one of the most least welcomed classes, for a good reason.

My concern is the way Blizzard approaches to the issue.

You can’t compare a class between the two expansions, I seriously couldn’t care less whether locks were good in WoD or Legion or whether they are really good in PvP or not.

I mean It has been months now since the BFA launched and I returned in the summer to retail.

What we want is to be competitive in mythic plus. I can totally accept if a class pays more effort to the same dps compared the others but once you have a good gear, know the rotation and have the right azerite & essence, you should be able to do a decent damage. I know that demonology or destruction might work relatively well, yet it is no way close to blast as many of the other rDPSes do. Why would seriously anyone consider a lock rather than a fire mage, boomkin or elemental shammy. Only thing that we contribute is soulstone and healthstone, which could be easily replaced of course.

Even if you do efficient cleave or high single target damage, these are not enough to be welcomed at mythic pushes. Affliction is not even up to discussion as it merely works in raids so far.

I must say that I already dislike the class spec design for locks but how Blizzard ignores the situation is even more frustrating. Let us still be the 3rd dps but at least put some effort to make others not scare of locks once they joined to the groups.

While the statement for the deathbolt nerf was ‘Oh, well many people choose it over drainsoul or nightfall and we want that change’. Sorry, but this is the case for virtually each of the classes out there. I am definitely not a min/max er but in many cases of talent points, there is most of the time only one viable option as it provides way more than the remaining two unless the choice is about the damage e.g. Demon Skin, Burning Rush etc.

There’s also a lot of ‘immune to cleave’ mechanics in some dungeons. I remember I ran Kings Rest as demonology once. I literally had to respec to destroy just for the second to last boss because Zanzil’s totems were immune to cleave so that completely invalidated my felguards damage, hand of guldans, implosions and of course my imps and shadowbolts couldn’t do enough to kill them fast even though I was multiple ilevels above.

Was this a normal Mythic Kings Rest? You can’t respecc nor change talents during a mythic+ run outside of the first minute at the start…

OT: I agree that demonology just doesn’t bring enough to the table to warrant a spot in high keys. With a guild group it’s quite doable to get a group together, but pushing anything above 14-15 is just so much easier with other classes.

We do have a bit of burst, but the rest of our cleave rotation (implosion) requires too much setup time where other classes/speccs are able to do the same, if not more, damage with a single ability.
Plus as has been mentioned, we have little ways to deal with short-lived priority targets, such as totems, that need to die within 5 seconds, as all our damage is based on a “ramp-up” or “outnumber” effect.

Aside from that, we have little to bring to the table in terms of utility aside from some select gateway tactics.
Banish can rarely, if ever, be used.
Fear is too dangerous to use.
Shadowfury has a cast time and a long cooldown.
Axe toss is decent but useless against most priority targets due to immunity to stuns.
Oh, and the beaten to death horse called “Why do we not have an interrupt?!”

All in all, it currently looks like we will get no updates to our class, aside from minor number tuning, untill AFTER shadowlands.
Yes, very little is known currently in regards to changes in that expansion. But with a statement that literally says “there will be NO overhaul” in the next expansion, I am both disheartened and quite frankly angry.

I did not like the story in WoD, yet I loved the everloving fel out of warlocks due to the fun gameplay. So please bring back the fun, even if it takes a different form. And at least acknowledge the problems some classes are facing instead of the radio silence.

1 there interupts bount to pet wich not good sounds

destro Warlocks works in m+ if you got a group that can pull around your cds making sure to pull big when you have infernal up or time it for hard packs.

Sadly you cant expect this when you simply pug.

And we do bring something the other caster dps cant, gateway skips.

I’ve hit 1582 rio score but I guess that’s it for me. I have a couple of 14 dungeons left to break 1600+ but getting into one is hell. I defintely play above average (I don’t extra pull, don’t do sht dps, know the skips, always carry invis pots, scrools, drums etc.) but it doesn’t matter. People just google “king’s rest best classes” and choose the highest percentage ones depending on the afflixes.

Result? Not getting invited to KR +15 with 1582 rio score, 450 ilvl.

Not totally agree on all. I premise, that i’m talking about myself, and the experience that someone gets could be different. I play Affliction, from ever, and does a lot of dps in a single target, if you are rotating dots well and using DL or DS as a filler, but less dps (not in all cases) during aoe phase (because the dots need to be applied and you waste much more GC that the other classes don’t). In mythics i do a lot of dps usually, and i rarely die, i’m not an arrogant and i stay since the mythics is complete and i’m a friendly person (but ppl sometime stressing too much my patience). The problem for me is another, the discrimination about this class, not considering if you are good or not, you are bad however, because you are a warlock. The problem is inside the mind, not about the class. Someone has an open mind, and someone don’t (majority). For me, the first thing (of many others) that warlock needs urgently is a movement skill. I’m not totally saying that warlock is ok, but ppl are not good in the same way, using a specific class.

I am talking about 15+ keys …

dw they’ll ruin destro too next expansion just to fix it halfway through the expansion again top kek

Don’t care about the key value, I’m talking about how the lock is considered around at the moment. No problem with any kind of mythics. I’m not new from this game (playing since vanilla, pvp and pve). But i can’t stand the ignorance about our class. I saw many and many things.

I want to play a warlock because I like all specs and class fantasy but I’m also playing a lot of m+ and it’s the thing that prevents me to play it more seriously. Even if I don’t want to push for really high (got to 2300 io max on tank/melee) I still Don’t like how warlokcs are so badly designed for m+. They should do Something so any class or spec can be good in raid or m+ with different talents or playstyles. “Staring at my warlock in menu with a sad face…”

Unless you enjoy torturing yourself do not even consider a lock for mythic plus. Those guys who have usually above 2k are doing high keys when their friends are bored and have nothing else to do but do some relatively lower keys for them or a different kind of challenge lol. Blizzard is just punishing locks as they are way better in PvP or raid however you can’t compare apples and oranges right.
