Lone Wolf vs Living Flame (My experience)

Hey all,

I just want to share some of my experience on playing on both Lone Wolf (H) and Living Flame (A).

To begin, I created a priest on Lone Wolf for the first week of SoD. From the get go there was TONS of players for any activity, quest etc. This has continued to the point of writing this topic.

Around about a week ago I became interested in creating an Alliance character to experience something new, seeing as getting to level 25 wouldn’t take too long. After observing the threads here it was obvious there was a huge demand for Living Flame, and I managed to create my first character there when they briefly unlocked the server.

After now reaching level 25 on both servers - one on Horde, one on Alliance, I’d like to raise a couple of points and things I have discovered.

Throughout my time on Lone Wolf (and still to this day) as soon as I login I see huge amounts of players in TB and Orgrimmar, and the world chat is extremely active for productive content ranging from premade BG’s, Ashenvale & Dungeons / Raids. Furthermore, it has a noticeable lack of GDKP posts (I’m sure it does exist). I don’t personally care whether GDKP is a thing or not, but just something to point out from my experience.

In terms of raiding I have saw a balanced amount of BFD posts between the two servers, however the amount of World Buffs being popped is largely more noticeable on Lone Wolf. It would take a maximum of 10-15 minutes to be granted one in a major city. (This has been cleared up! please ignore anything comparing world buffs)

Additionally, the starting zones to end-phase zones were all extremely populated and there would always be players in the vicinity, both horde and alliance.

Lastly, the server has many social, PvP, and hardcore raiding guilds available. Some of which have between 500-900 members.

Now this is where it becomes interesting…

My time spent on Living Flame was quite the opposite. From creating my first character (NE Druid), I was greeted with a pretty empty starting zone (must of been around 2-3 other players leveling with me until Darnassus). This took me completely by surprise as there was a huge demand for players and this was the first hour of the server being Unlocked. I had also created a human character and there was a bit more activity through Northshire Abbey / Elwyn Forest, but nothing compared to Lone Wolf at a similar point in SoD.

Now I know there are probably many more layers to this server and this may very well have severely impacted the experience I had, however it was a negative experience nonetheless.

To continue, I noticed the world chat operated VERY differently to which Lone Wolf had. For example, people were spamming like crazy - anyone looking for a person for a specific activity was posting it 3-5 times in a row consistently. I found this to be quite annoying really. It didn’t seem to bother anyone else and didn’t see many posts complaining about it.

Surprisingly, inbetween the spam there was a similar level of activity as I had experienced on Lone Wolf. However I was now greeted with TON’s of GDKP posts and spam. I was aware beforehand that the server was home to these types of guilds / groups so it didn’t really surprise me, I was just not accustomed to it having played Lone Wolf at SOD’s peak and having no experiences with it there. Lastly to add here there was very few premade bg posts compared to Lone Wolf.

I struggled to find any populated social guilds to spend my time leveling in, and those I did come across only had between 10-30 people online at a single time.

I was surprised to find that even though Living Flame has a tremendous amount of logs for BFD, the scarcity between World Buffs was staggering. Now I don’t fully understand the logistics behind it in terms of layers etc, but in contrast it would never take longer than 15 minutes for a buff to pop on Lone Wolf, and I was able to sit for hours in Stormwind without a single buff on Living Flame.

To conclude this huge post… (my apologies) I think from my experience there is something a bit off with Living Flame, and this could be too many layers or the fact it has been Locked for a severe amount of time now. But I can give my honest opinion having experienced both servers albeit different factions, that I much preferred my time on Lone Wolf, and still do. The world just feels more alive, more activity, and a healthier experience with other players. Less bots, less spam posts and less GDKP (does not matter to me personally), which could be a big factor for other players.

I just thought I’d share this experience which may help others decide whether they want to play either server. I will be continuing to play both servers from both factions going forward.

Cheers for spending an hour of your time to read this

I play on Living Flame and none of this is true.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I usually have the world buff in Darnassus faster than the loading screen has loaded.
Also, i would estimate that living flame has about 20-30% more players than lone wolf.

Is this really an honest opinion or just an advertisement for lone wolf?

I would say he just wanna lure more people into LW xd .

Im curently working on my 2nd LF char , which im taking realy slow cuz we decided to level and gear together with friends our mutual time is rather limited .

But so far im at like 20, ive seen tons of people leveling, doing group quests, we even had groups competing for specific mob .

Trade chat is healthy , WB poping constantly, lfg going at pretty much all times for everything from dm to bfd , wsg and even rfk farms …

I dont know situation on LW , but i cant imagine it bein more alive

I have no ties to either realm, I wrote this up to give my opinion on my experience. I’m playing Living Flame as we speak and I have absolutely no reason to be advertising or promoting realms :joy:

Everything I wrote was based on my experience, you can say it’s not true or you had a different experience and that’s your experience, not mine.

Adding my testimony here, as mentionned in a previous thread i have an un-fixed source that shows that pop are now (4AM) like:
Living Flame 100%
Lone Wolf 69%
Crusader strike 38%

Did 2 ashenval in the hour before reboot,
Crusader strike: Area crowded, mutliple 40 raids event ended in 20min
Living flame: Area empty, cant manage to make 25 man raid, only killed 2 boss before timeout (nobody won, we were ahead).

I really believe at this point this is not related to Living Flame being lock but more to the layer management that tend to turn area emptier on bigger realm outside of crowded hours.

It sure feels like it, lol. But rather than ill intent, my bet is on the time at which OP engages with the game. Maybe LW has more people playing at the same time as OP.
The SW buff part got me though, not gonna lie.

Also keep in mind, starting in LF a week or more after launch would make all the difference.

Lone wolf doesnt really need advertisement servers perfectly alive.

I think you will find this is another “living flame doesnt need to be locked” post.

I play on both. As my guild got split into 2 over the fiasco and i managed to make a char during one of the unlocks. So i play with both sides of my guild.

Lone wolf is very alive, its just not as alive as living flame.

The fact the LW hasn’t been infested with GDKP yet tells me all I need to know about the two main servers. I’ve actually never seen a GDKP advertised in LW yet.

Lone wolf world buff pops like every 30sec to 2min in Darnassus

Honestly feel the blackfathom buff pops very consistently on living flame

Haven’t played on Lone wolf but I would have to agree with your assessment of living flame. It is a boring server with seemingly the most players, who are all apparently invisible until the Ashenvale event starts.

Yeah I rerolled from living flame alliance soon as i noticed the gdkp and other toxic post spam… the most anti social toxic server i’ve ever played

They generally attract the jobless no lifers in all honesty

Most people in Living flame is high levels, since newcommers can’t come. And I can tell you - there id nothing special in Living flame. I play there (amt lvl23), and really - it’s just a server, I have no idea why people are so motivated to come here - there is nothing special, extrodinary here. The only reason why I play here - is couple of my friends. If classic had cross-realm groups - I would just play on another realm. Living flame is just a big overhyped server, no idea why players want to reroll here so badly.

When you see two sides, be the bridge that is needed!

Im doing like 1-3 ashenvales per day, depends on my luck to catch them and time to play , every single one i did was crowded to limit where i had like 10sec delays on spells.
There were literaly like hundreds of people killing that boss , and i was just waiting when i get DCed or killed .

Living flame is hella alive

Not true. Have leveled multiple horde chars on LF, and it’s super full, plus you get the buff instant in TB.
