Long forgotten Shal'dorei Naturalists

Thousands of years ago, when the Highborne culture was flourishing and was just in the beginning of unraveling the mysteries of the arcane, a small group called the “Keepers” who were proto-druids, at the same time the Highborne, formed an order, to seek the knowledge, which could bring balance to both nature and the arcane magic in one grand cycle. Little did we know, that in the shadows of the arcane shield, which would protect Suramar for thousands of years, one has already achieved something, which was not common for others nor it was possible to explain to simple minds. High Botanist Tel’arn
“-Suramar owes its beauty to my blooms! I alone have mastered the delicate intertwining of magic into nature’s grand cycle.”

Tel’arn had always been captivated by plants, their adaptability, and tenacity, the ability of ordinary grass to capture the sun’s energy, the way a tree may be divided into two, or two branches grafted into one. With the power of the Nightwell, Tel’arn had changed his humanoid form into something far greater, combining itself into one vessel of Arcane, Nature, and Solar energy. Tel’arn was able to nourish plant life in Suramar, without the Sunlight.

Regardless, his loyalty to Queen Elisande led to his downfall, being killed by the champions of the Azeroth. His legacy continued in a small group of Nightborne who were following the teachings of High Botanist Tel’arn, they named themselves the Shal’dorei Naturalist and the Shal’dorei Sage, located in the North East of the city, unbeknown to outsiders and indeed many of the Nightborne themselves, they were not challenged by the players.
Shal’dorei Naturalists- Nightborne individuals, who started growing arcane leaves, as well as seemingly absorbing the trees into themselves, meanwhile the Shal’dorei Sages, would use water elementals to water their gardens. These elves, cast notable abilities, such as wraith, entangling roots, and the thorns, all these spells are notable spells of the Druid class of the World of Warcraft.

Throughout past years, the theme of the druids in the World of Warcraft has been changed. Nowadays, the term Druid is almost an umbrella term. Before, we knew, that in order to be accepted as a druid, you had to be accepted by the Cenarion Circle, after recent events, however, it proves otherwise. What do I mean by this?
● The Kul Tiran “drust druids” who were once drust, but went against the Gorak Tul teachings, had become an independent group called The Thornspeakers.

●The Darkspear trolls of the World of Warcraft, owe their shapeshifting abilities to Gonk, the ancient raptor loa of shapes and master of the hunt, but they have been accepted by the Cenarion Circle, regardless of their mentor not being Cenarius.

●The Zandalari, who are originally Dinomancers, have been practicing shapeshifting for millennia, maybe even pre-dating Tauren and Night elven Druidism.

Why am I writing this, you may wonder. Druid is an umbrella term for the shapeshifters, being a druid should not necessarily mean you need to respect nature, as it was before. That being said, a delicate intertwining of the arcane to nature, should not be considered taboo as well.

Now that Valewalker Farodin, has successfully helped the Nightborne to overcome their addiction over the Nightwell, and he is with the Shal’dorei, he as the proto-druid may guide the remaining naturalists, the ways of druidism.

Thank you.

There are blood elf “druids” as well but I get not wanting to add them in because every race needs to be able to shapeshift. Nightborne though already kind of have viable shapeshift designs.

There’s the arcane looking bear form that you get from the artifact weapon. Mana sabers are a thing and you even turn into one if you use cat form and use the Suramar masquerade I believe. Their boomkin form can be a slightly different glyph of stars form. Maybe base the tree form on the look of the high botanist himself?

If the Nightborne druids get to have red manes, whiskers, feathers etc. when shapeshifted, I’ll support this.

Because, uh… uh… the Emerald Nightmare’s corruption seeped in from Val’sharah as the protective shield around Suramar no longer exists.

Since druids rarely appear in their humanoid forms and can’t be told if they are redheads or nay…

If not, begone! :stuck_out_tongue:

But then I’d happily roll a belf druid, just the same. I mean, why not?

I confused Naturalists with Naturists. I was expecting to read something else when I clicked on this post.

I mean i love the idea but dont horde have more druids than alliance already

Tauren
High Mountain Tauren
Troll
Zand troll

And alliance have

KT
Nelf
Worgen

means if you got NB , Ali would have to get another to nearly keep up as we have more paladins.

Nothing to do with me lol I just posted it.

If it was upto me they would be naturists.

And have red hair.

Excellent post  Lets go druids!

I’ve always been against this “more elves druids” kind of posts, but I actually liked this one.

Almost got me to support you, until that thing about respecting nature. From my point of view that’s the basic requirement and I find that all existing druid races respect nature be it out of awe, love, etc

But I don’t get why nightborne can’t respect nature? I think they totally can and should.

Btw pandaren fill the bill for me too, even more than most races.

I don’t get that last part. Alliance having more Paladins somewhat counterbalances Horde having more shamans (as those classes were originally exclusive to those factions). Druids don’t have a lot to do with this, they were faction even until the introduction of allied races.

That is what is said by Nightelven Druids. Apparently interfering arcane to nature is disrespectful.

I’m not as good as you guys with lore. But I thought the hate for arcane came because that ended in the well of eternity/attracting demons?

I mean, sure arcane excess is bad for nature. But that applies for every magic source. Excess from light can damage the earth too (you can see that happening with consecrated ground where you see how it “burns” the ground kinda).

From my point of view, any excess is bad but even death and decay can be beneficial in limited amounts (from death comes new life).

In fact, in mother nature fire in moderate amounts is beneficial for some species.

The Nightborne “interfering arcane” is not really what it sounds like, they basically force nature to obey them with the arcane magic.

But yet, as it is mentioned in the post, Valewalker could help to balance it and guide their ways of the druidism, without arcane magic being forcefully used on the surrounding.

Nice, I kinda get you now.

Well, my family comes from the countriside, I’ve worked in the fields way too often.

And you basically always “force” mother nature. But that doesn’t mean you HAVE to be destructive. As long as you can find balance, as you said, it can be beneficial for both.

In fact I’ll sooner or later inherit some fields and I’ve planned to not only respect nature but dedicate a part of my terrain for native species and I’ll save some of them to replant after the usual summer forest fires.
