Looking for Adventurers, not for pixel loot

Today, someone in the guild said, “Anyone up for taking down the dragon in Alterac?”
It was a level 44 rogue asking. The dragon was level 44 too.
I’m a rogue, level 40.
Perfect. I thought, we can do this!
I replied, “On my way!”
Mapped out a strategy in my head. Sent him a plan. My heart was racing — someone just invited me on a dragon hunt in World of Warcraft!
Oddly, no one else responded.

Long story short: the dragon wrecked us. Two hits, and I was sprinting for my life, syncing my escape perfectly with my fellow rogue, who told me to vanish — didn’t even need to.
But here’s where it gets interesting: I couldn’t convince anyone else to join us.
I messaged others, even some 60s.
Every reply? “Why bother? The loot sucks.”

[Important note: absolutely no offence to those, who plays for loot/pvp/raids/fishing/herbalism/anythingelse. That’s just not my way to play, and i’m looking for folks, going the same way with me  And slain the dragon!
cheers all hardcore players!]

Wait, what?
Isn’t the whole point the adventure?
Most of WoW isn’t loot — it’s the gameplay, the chaos, the unexpected, the story you tell afterward.
Slaying a dragon with a ragtag crew — that’s the stuff I log in for.

Just the other day, I saw a raid of level 1s forming to take down Hogger.
I jumped in instantly. It was pure magic.
I really thought a hardcore server would be filled with people who lived for this kind of thing. Maybe I’m just asking the wrong way?

To be fair, a paladin and a priest did reply. Didn’t work out, but at least they were interested.

Anyway, if you’ve read this far, then maybe — just maybe — you feel something about it.
I’m looking for a group where “let’s kill a dragon” means let’s go have an unforgettable adventure, not “what’s the loot table?”
Because the real loot? That’s the memories.

If you know of a guild like that, or if you are that kind of player — drop me a message. Let’s make some stories worth telling.

Waykee, Soulseeker.

I think many love to play like this now and then. The problem is twofold: we, playing for the fun, not for the min-maxing, optimisation, doing everything just right the first time around, have been met with ridicule and ostracised since Classic was a few weeks old. And then those playing this way are, at least I think so, more prone to being lone wolves, not grouping on a regular basis, not joining guilds. What came first I do not care to guess.

PS. I play on Nek’Rosh, so I won’t join your guild.

PPS. I would have loved to kill that dragon for revenge. It got my poor paladin at level 31.

Doing a raid on hogger sounds utterly pointless to me. Killing a dragon, regardless if it drops loot or not, sounds fun. This dragon you speak of, scared a lot of people.

The people that do something just for fun are probably a tiny minority on the realms.

I guess it comes down to personal preference.

I don’t think that loot per se is the main obsession of most player during leveling.
It seems to me that most people before all want to reach max level.

I’d probably have answered your call, but notheless I think the game should give players more incentives to participate in such events.

I get what you mean, but at the same time you wanted to engage a dragon that is immune to most CC and hits hard enough to easily wreck a lv 60, while not dropping anything of value.

It is simply that people don’t want to risk losing so many hours while there is not even a reward for it other than the fight itself…but for such things there are more interesting fights to engage in.

The comparison with a bunch of lvl 1 engaging Hogger does not really work, since a level 1 has no time put into it, but at lv 40+ you have many hours invested.

Many would most likely seek that ‘adventure’ in the high level dungeons and raids which offers the thrill along with the chance for a nice piece of gear to show for it.

Hardcore is not really the place to find people wanting to take high risk for no reward.
