Looking for help with Enhance

So i am trying to get into enhance and im needing a little advice from people that main enhance… Some tips on how to grasp the rotation, it seems totally random to me at what to press.

Is there a macro to bind some rotational abilities together ?
or maybe a less complicated build ?

I’m using the WoWhead Elementalist Aoe build at the moment and its overwhelming how many abilities are in the rotation.

Yeah, playing Enhancement is kind of like the circus act with the spinning plates, and knowing which of those spinning plates requires the most attention.

Any tips ? maybe a rotation macro for a couple of abilities ?

Anything to break it down a little

Unfortunately there is not any abilities that you can macro together. At the moment you will need 12 Keybinds for your dps rotation (SS,LL,CrL,FlS,FrS,IS,LB,ChL,LvB,Sundering,PWave,Feral Spirit), and some more for utilities like interupt, offheal, stun, dash, and so on…

The spec has a highly random rotation/priority that changes depending on procs/talents, and the best way to learn it is to read/watch gameplay from other shamans.

The only thing I HIGHLY recommend is getting the Hekili addon. It might not be perfect to use in any environment, but it works wonder to learn the rotation for enh in the training dummies (in combination to reading guides).

If you feel comfortable with that, then the next step is to open some warcraftlogs/streams and go deeper into the rotation with how other shamans are playing. Although frankly you will only need to do this step if you consider pushing/performing at the highest end.

I’m sorry, I realise that my comment wasn’t very helpful. Honestly, playing enhancement is something that’s best learned by doing. Heklii can be very helpful, but it’s best to treat as training wheels. It’s great for practice, but only if the end goal is to play without it. The main thing to realise is, on paper, Enhancement is a build-and-spend spec, that has a bunch of different procs stapled on which, depending on your talent build, integrate into your build and spend rotation in various different ways.

  • I can recommend getting some mouseover macros, mainly for Lava Lash, to spread the debuffs around, and for Wind Shear, so you don’t have to waste time tabbing over when something needs an emergency interrupt.
  • Familiarise yourself with utility like Tremor Totem, Ancestral Guidance, Mana Spring. You can bring much more to the table than just pressing the Heroism every ten minutes or so.
  • A good UI to track your various procs and buffs is a lifesaver. I personally use a fairly default ElvUI build, and the Luxthos shaman weakauras. This lets me track the spread of flameshock, and the aforementioned procs and buffs. There’s no shaman build that doesn’t run Overflowing Maelstrom, and with the default UI only counting stacks up to 5 (besides the little buff icon), you’ll need something to help you track that.
  • Familiarise yourself with the various fights, especially in terms of moving in and out of range. Briefly having to move out of melee range won’t suck nearly as much if you know when to hold back on a few ranged abilities to fill GCDs.

There’s nothing wrong with having hekili on even after you’ve grown accustomed to the rotation. In the end of the day it’s just a helpful add-on that lets you know when something is up for you to press it.

People use weakauras in the same way that shows you what’s up and highlights an ability with a glow.

When you get more experienced you can make better judgement calls on what to press. Like, you wouldn’t use certain cooldowns at the wrong time, perhaps a chain lightning would be more beneficial then elemental blast.

Enhancement has always been whack a mole type rotation, waiting for abilities to proc or to gather MSW.

Get Hekili. It puts the skills you want to press on the screen. It works fine. After a while your muscle memory kicks in and you can get rid of it if you so desire.
