Loot not tradeable because item is supposed for a different spec (Azshara's Font of Power)

Hey there,

in last week’s raid Azshara’s Font of Power dropped for my DK. I was in Unholy spec with my loot specialisation also set to Unholy. I do have two (more than two actually) higher trinkets on my DK. I also wear two higher trinkets. Needless to say my whole ilvl is higher as well.

Another raid member was interested in the item and I was more than happy to give it to him. Unfortunately it says the item is soulbound and therefore I can’t trade it. Ok, no big deal I thought and opened a ticket. The answer surprised me.

Although the item drops for Unholy, for all dps actually, according to a GM the item is supposed to be a tank item. And therefore it compares to the last trinkets I got while in Blood spec. The last time I’ve been in Blood was months ago and ofc the last trinkets I got then were lower.

But I never heard of that. Why does an item, which drops for all specs, compare to the items for one specific spec?

Never thought i’d say that but thats bull

Every spec in the game can use it, i have gotten it on all 3 roles

You know, I know and even the GM knows the item can be used by every spec but according to him the item is “tailored” for Blood spec and therefore I can’t trade it.

I even responded to the ticket but no chance. The second answer from them basicly sounds the same.

“Gear isn’t just tracked on a “max item level looted” basis, they also look at what specific spec you looted that item in. For most gear, that isn’t a big deal, since most gear counts for all specs. Trinkets, and Weapons, are an exception to that, since they tend to be more tailored for specific specs.”

“I can understand where you are coming from, however, even if you are in Unholy Spec, that does not mean a certain Item cannot be meant being good for Blood Spec as well. It is very likely, that this is why you cannot trade it […]”

I know ( Heh ) but it makes no sense because its crap for blood compared to unholy & frost

Got 2 430 trinkets on all chars have never noticed this, and i play every spec aslong as its not dps

Unfortunately the Support team can’t bypass loot mechanics like this. If you think it’s a bug I’d encourage you to use the ingame bug report tool, so that it can be reviewed by QA.

The problem is, nobody I spoke to, nobody here and neither the WoW wikis or sites like Wowhead seem to know this “mechanic”.

Besides a few breaks I’m playing this game for 15 years now. I never ever heard of an item which officially drops for all specs, is dropped for and being in the right spec with the right loot specialisation, is compared to a different specs loot where the item doesn’t even make sense.

Hey there Nathia

This system was introduced in Legion where item level for each slot was “saved” to your character so item level upgrades would not be tradable. There are only a few slots left since then where this makes any difference, trinket and weapon being the main ones.

As Cthureal mentioned, it would be best to bring this to the attention of the Dev Team through the appropriate channels, primarily this would actually be a suggestion rather than a bug.

I agree with you, this is BS. Blizzard wants us to trade less and less so they are prunning professions/changing loot trading rules, and all this is to keep individuals longer in game, subbed longer, paying longer. Forget about player satisfaction.

I fail to describe how wrong this explanation is.

Never ever, not even since Legion, has a Trinket not been tradeable because of some “super secret behind the scenes item level compared to a spec this item is not even specific for” comparisson.

I rarely play Blood and my gear for it, including the trinkets, is always way behind my DPS gear. I have always been able to trade gear, including trinkets, to other players as long as the trinkets I had where at least the same item level. I, we, everyone actually, even changed their loot spec if people are in need for something from a boss you don’t need anything.

The Font of Power is no, well must not be, an exception. I do no feel like there is a bug to report (or that it would make sense). I feel like you are making a mistake here. But I’m getting tired of this so I’m giving up.

Yeah. You know better than a Blizzard employee, working at the company does. Sounds about right.

Balefire Branch is a good example of a trinket that caused countless tickets asking why the resto druid wasn’t able to trade it with the mage.

It’s because it was saved to their Boomkin item history as a dps trinket since it’s a on use Intellect item that can be Healer or DPS.
