Loot system update - Suggestion

It’s easy to understand that the loot system in SoD is not well designed for how the phases are gonna be. Many of us face the annoying reality that some items just won’t drop no matter what.

I suggest an update to the loot system that adds to the system in place right now.

Every boss drops a resource token (can be given an appropriate name)
BFD has 7 bosses, so killing all of these awards 7 tokens that can be used at a raid vendor.

Lets take Deadly Strike of the Hydra (Epic Sword). It can be set to cost for example 50 resource tokens (or more) the player has assurance that even if the item doesn’t drop I will eventually be able to obtain it. This new addition will give the player piece of mind when it comes to loot.

Lesser big items will then cost fewer resource tokens to obtain of course and has to be decided by Blizzard.

Some might say that if such a system is implemented it will lower the excitement of having the right item drop and win the roll for it after a long time trying. I will then add that every time I try to obtain an item and it just won’t drop its just annoying and once it finally drops its often “too late” to be able to enjoy the item for that phase.

I do hope we can see a better loot system for the coming phases than what is in use now.

After getting nothing from BFDs sometimes I agree a resource token would be cool to incentivise continuing after bis and hitting that dopamine when you win nothing.

I disagree that Raid items should be purchased, but rather would prefer tabards, shirts, silly hats and other cosmetics (read: fun) items.

Well yes, I almost quit wow several times in the past for bad luck streaks.

Current loot system makes it a slot machine game where good gear is mostly about having good luck. Also, with how casual SoD raids are, guilds aren’t a thing and you are against a lot of ungeared people in pugs.

I would add one thing to your suggestion: those tokens could be used by professions to craft the items themselves. They can even make long quest chains to obtain the materials to craft the items, something like hand of ragnaros or thunderfury quest lines in vanilla.
DsotH for example could be much more valuable if it was obtained that way.

But I think it will never happen, because wow has always had this gambling element in it - RNG - since its conception. Blizzard probably has some professionals that are experts on how to get people addicted etc. so they will not change the game to be another ultima online, or albion online, where you actually deserve every inch of loot you get instead of relying on RNG.
That sort of a loot system rewards really committed, hardcore players, and casuals don’t enjoy the game much, they don’t get this dopamine rush they get from an undeserved item simply because they got lucky and rolled a 99.

Good topic though.

Ye some real nice ideas here

I went 15 times into bfd never saw the polearm drop and just ones the leather shoulders from last Boss. So i dont got both. And? Where is the problem? I dont see any.
You dont have to have every item.

Or we can just keep the Classic loot system and you guys can stop crying about RNG?

I just wonder what kind of incentive would you have to continue after a couple of runs when you have everything? Partly by drops and partly by tokens.
You probably would be bored and complain about how there’s nothing to do and the phases need to come faster.
This way more people keep running the raids and more people will be able to join and get loot too.

well there is nothing to do so :stuck_out_tongue:

Well my rogue alt had full greens when I joined a BFD raid and I got 6 items from that reset. Next run I also got lucky and only after 2 weeks of getting to 25 it has full BiS and I don’t even log into that character anymore.
RNG actually makes this much more of a possibility and in a worse way.

Let’s imagine that set items and weapons were crafted by collecting tokens. And you get 7 tokens per run,
Let’s say 1 set item required 35 tokens to craft
On top of that it requires 100x silk cloth, 100x heavy leather and 100x bronze bars
That is quite a grind and I doubt many people will be full BiS with such a system.

Can we keep classic class balance too and the raids and dungeons the same? Or are you confused about this forum being SoD and not era?

Because no changes exist on ERA go have fun with it.

SoD is still a seasonal extention to Classic. The realms are still listed under World of Warcraft: Classic in your battle.net interface.

Now if it were called Dragonflight: Season of Discovery, you could have all the retail garbage that you want.

‘Kekw’ ‘:))’ ‘insert that other zoomer crap that you post whenever you think you’ve said something clever

Is there a token system in Dragonflight?

I’m confused.

Don’t bother reacting, Miylee is one of the people on this forum who doesn’t propose anything and only criticizes or contradicts for obviously just the pleasure of being “against”.
These interventions have no added value.

A token system would bring a real plus and fairness to raids, in addition to putting obstacles in the way of GDKPs runs.

Multiple.

A Classic player like Miylee is opposed to suggestions that alter the very playstyle of the game and change it to something more befitting of retail; a game that dislike?

Well gee wizz, who could have seen that coming.

Last time I checked there were even more RNG with personal loot system magically throwing items into your inventory rather than putting actual effort into getting better items.

That’s still the case, yes. Personal loot is a garbage system and I hate it.

But there’s also several token systems so you can gear your toons up without relying on RNG personal loot. Granted, mostly for catch-up gear. I suppose adding tokens for BiS gear would one-up retail.

Imagine making a game more retail than retail.

Can you kill something that is already dead?

Each of us dies twice. Once in body and twice in name. You meet your second death when every memory of you is gone and there are none left to carry your name.

If that’s what you’re asking.

Not every player should go to BiS and have every item from the raid. If you did not get the item or were unlucky with the roll, then next time you may be lucky
