I have just been through a ticket with 8 GMs about getting this character Lord Walden’s Top Hat (Lord Walden’s Top Hat - Item - World of Warcraft (wowhead.com)). He is a Worgen, but was boosted. And by paying £49 some years back I have lost access to this item.
Now GMs cannot give free items, so instead the option was for my character to be transferred into the Worgen Starting Zone phase to get it via in-game means. After being asked to log out so I have this character transferred to Gilneas to do the quest, I was told that boosted characters cannot go through that process and Mashira will never get Lord Walden’s Top Hat.
Other methods of getting into the starting zone, such as Warlock Summons and Recruit-A-Friend summons do not work. You can bring the low-level Worgen out of Gilneas, but they cannot summon you into Gilneas.
Why not use other hats? The only matching model is the Duskhaven Top Hat from islands, but it is a different colour. The real stinger is that Lord Walden’s Top Hat matches the Heritage set, whilst the Duskhaven Top Hat is black.
I think this is bad game design. Paying £49 for a service should not restrict my access to an item, especially one as coveted as this. Also, with Exile’s Reach being implemented there are going to be a lot more Worgen who are without the item, and who’ll wish they had created their character in the other starting zone.
So, I think it’s high time this hat became a cosmetic. If it did, it would fix both the Boost and Exile’s Reach problem, and open the transmog to other races (which usually is only possible with a race-change!). If you agree, go to Submit Suggestion and let Blizzard know! Let’s get this changed!
TL:DR: Submit Suggestion to get Blizzard to make Lord Walden’s Top Hat a cosmetic item so we can all mog it.

Maybe you should have asked on the forums or done the quest before boosting?
Then again I think all BoP items should be able to be transmogged, no matter their status.

Make an in game suggestion to make it green - and ask others to do it too. Start a campaign.

I already have done! This post is to try and get others to do so too, suggest to make it moggable.

There are many white/common items which are very good looking but not transmog-able like greens and it’s really sad. Would be good if that had and various other items are made such!
So while I don’t main a Worgen, I definitely support this.

Would you have been better off starting a new Worgen take it to 20 get the hat and mail or it should be in appearances for all?
the belf starter white sets are gorgeous enough to mog we need them as greens
ahd when my classic belf pala can wear gleaming scale breastplate
and any glimmering mail/battleforge we need plate versions of that

Seems we need either to include white items into being transmogable or they need to upgrade some white items into greens. Or add them to the transmog competition rewards.

Unfortunately as this is a soulbound item, it cannot be mailed.
With the new cosmetic icon they have, I think making this item (and similar ones like the monoclue from Legion Leatherworking) cosmetics will fix the issue.

This should be the case for vanilla gear from when Plate/Leather users had to use ‘‘cloth’’ items in order to be able to heal. I have such few characters and many OG transmogs are still locked to me, with the justification that ‘‘the class isn’t meant to use that item’’. 2021 GMs telling me how I was supposed to heal as a Paladin or Druid in vanilla, the audacity
They’re not telling you how you were supposed to play back then.
The game is not a galore of mismatched transmog anymore. All armor types have an intellect stat, you get personal loot in both quest rewards and boss drops. There is no reason to wear an armor type other than the one meant for your class anymore.
Don’t be so attached to how the game was years ago.

This thread isn’t really in regards to this. I’m not saying cloth should be transmogable to all folks or that armour types should loosen. Lord Walden’s Top Hat isn’t cloth, much like the Monocole from Legion Leatherworking.
This is a discussion about white items that should be transmogable, Lord Walden’s Top Hat in particular.

This. This right here officer. Case closed.
That would fix the problem, yeah. However I’m unsure if that’d actually go through.
You missed the point in order to post something trivial and unneeded.
The point is it’s not audacious for GMs to tell you a class can’t mog cloth because it is not meant to use it. That’s how the game is designed now.
I am talking about characters made in 2005-6, with original vanilla gear, gear that was staple back then to the specific class/role. Not 2021 transmogfarm emulator ‘‘Shadowlands’’
That isn’t what this thread is about unfortunately. I made this after dealing with 8 GMs (in one ticket!) to try and get an item which I can no longer obtain due to boosts. I also realised that any characters going through Exile’s Reach would miss out on it.
It isn’t good game design to have this item ‘trapped’ in a location that you can’t get to if you picked the ‘wrong’ starting zone. This is the issue this post is about, not regarding cross-armour-types or comparing modern WoW to Classic/BC.

I am personally all for the idea. I never understood why such an important piece for worgen players isn’t a transmog option.
The only two alternatives currently in existence are the heritage armor tophat, and the duskhaven tophat which is restricted to clothies.
If you do want one I can offer you a duskhaven tophat.

Thank you very much. I do have one already thanks to a guildy who saw this, but I am grateful for the thought. <3
