"Lore" Question

With the current races that we have, which one would have the most affinity to wield the arcane.

I think the competing races are:

  • Thalassian Elves
  • Night Elves (Highborne)
  • Draenei (It was the reason they got approached by Sageras)
  • Nightborne

Out of these races, which one would have the most affinity, it’s something I have been pondering about and I personally think the real battle will be between the Nightborne and the Draenei.

But I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Akshually Humans have a great affinity for it, the Helves (thalassian) agreed to teach them and were surprised by this.

I don’t know who is “the best” but remember Thalyssra ran away from Jaina. The 10k+ First Arcanist v 40(?)yo human with a fancy staff. Pfft I say.

While I’m a huge fan of the draenei and they will always get my vote I do have to point to another race as well. It’s written in the chronicles that when the high elves taught magic to humans in return for helping them against the trolls then the humans were so good at it that it actually frightened the elvens. I mean it makes sense since they are descendant from titan constructs.

Edit: beaten while writing, but yeah the point is same.

Don’t laugh, but the Ogre
Despite their modern, brutal appearance on Azeroth, their lore—particularly detailed in World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 2—confirms that they were once the premier arcane spellcasters of Draenor
Their affinity is deeply rooted in their biology, history, and a unique evolutionary mutation.
Ogres are naturally attuned to the arcane because they are directly descended from Titan creations
The Titan Aggramar created a colossal stone giant named Grond. When Grond shattered, his remains eventually evolved into the Colossals, which degraded into the Magnaron, then the Ogron, and finally the Ogres
Because of this “Titan-forged” bloodline, ogres inherited an innate capacity to grasp and manipulate the cosmic force of Order (Arcane magic).
The ogres’ intense practice of sorcery and constant exposure to raw arcane energies caused a permanent, physical mutation: the birth of two-headed ogres
These rare, two-headed children possessed vastly superior intelligence, cognitive processing, and magical aptitude compared to single-headed ogres.
The Gorian sorcerers eventually invented arcane rituals to deliberately trigger this mutation. Years later during the Second War, Gul’dan used these same stolen high elven runestones and ancient Gorian rituals at the Altars of Storms to artificially create the Ogre-Magi for the Horde

Similar is true to the Humans - the “Human Potential” is actually their Titan-forged heritage and their connection to Order wich in turn manifest in the form of Arcane Magic

Among the mortal races, Queen Azshara is undisputed best with Arcane - and this is canon, no one question it - so I would say the Highborne and their offshoots are on par if not better than the Humans who while have a talent not had the luxury to prectice the art for ten millenia or lived (or Thalassian, Nightborne, Naga case still live) right next to an Arcane Nexus/Well

While individuals like Queen Azshara or the Blue Dragonflight hold more raw, localized power on Azeroth, the Eredar of Argus mastered the arcane as a global, everyday technology long before Azeroth’s mortal races even existed they were technologically and magically hyperadvanced, but interestingly their main power was not really Arcane but Death - maybe because Argus was the Titan of Death - but while were and are very good with Arcane, they mastered the art that is borderline Necromancy; Soulpriests and their Vigilant constructs deal heavily with souls and the dead.
Long before they ever discovered the Holy Light, the ancient Eredar used their advanced Arcane crystal-crafting to master “soulbinding”—the science of anchoring a soul into a mechanical construc and had an elite order known as the Wakeners
