Lore/Immersion Worgen

I’ve read that the worgen were treated badly when first joining the Alliance as people saw them as monsters. My question is if this is/was the case then how have the view changed since the cataclysm? For example I’m wondering what a citizen in Stormwind would feel if a worgen was walking on the street nowadays. And when we are on the topic, were there any lore on Demon Hunters joining the Alliance. I mean Illidan were not on the best terms with Nightelves. Thinking of the intro when Death Knights Joined and how hated they were. Ty in advance! <3

I’m not much of an expert on lore, but I should imagine worgen would have a better time of it compared to Demon Hunters and Death Knights. Especially as Genn Greymane is such a prominent figure in the Alliance.

In terms of Demon Hunters, they played a pivotal role in bringing about the fall of the Burning Legion. This can also be said about Death Knights, as they played their hand in Shadowlands. Whilst I’m sure they’ll never be widely accepted by the populous, they would be appreciated at the time as a necessary force. Maybe times have changed?

I am constantly questioning my place as a roleplaying Demon Hunter and tend to distance myself from certain places, such as Stormwind as an example. But I’m fairly new to the RP scene here, maybe someone could give me some tips on this too?

Well Worgen are monsters. but you could argue. so are Dreanei, by Alliance standards. and in a World with more egregious monster races. like myself. The Alliance is used to some exotic stuff by now.

many don’t know this, as blizzard didn’t shout it from the rooftops of Stormwind like someone shooting their make-belief gun. but Genn Greymane is the Standing Regent of Stormwind, while Turalyon is helping out in Khaz Algar.

So either people can take this, and use it to riot against their alliance leaders (as they should, The horde has done it twice now its really cool /jk). or take it as a clear sign that worgen are A okay in Alliance society.

So something that’s important to point out is that there’s always going to be a difference between general reception and individual reception. While I think for most people in the Alliance at this stage the worgen are just another face in the crowd, there’s still going to be some that look upon them with distrust, unease or fear.

Someone who lives in Stormwind and has only ever seen the worgen as civilians, normal people doing normal things who just so happen to look different isn’t likely to have the same reaction as someone who was in Gilneas and saw their friends and family cut down by an unthinking beast. Even knowing that someone could do that again could be a source of unease.

So basically in short - I think generally speaking the Alliance has had a lot of time to adjust to worgen. The average person isn’t likely to be as fearful or distrustful of them as they once were - but that’s the “rule”, and there’s going to be exceptions - so approach it however you think works best for your characters!

When I RPed my worgen back during Cata, long time ago mind you. IC, there was a lot of mistrust and… dare I say insane RP happening. You’d have guard RPers or just standard human RPers walk up to Worgen and tell them to put a muzzle on if they are going to walk around in worgen form or revert back to human form.

I left Stormwind for years after that and RPed with my friend in Teldrassil until the far future.

But lore-wise, I did not read anything that had any kind of mistrust toward the Worgen/Gilneas, though they have mentioned they need to prove themselves they have a place in the Alliance itself.

Me, looking at those people: “…I know what you are.”

And you know what… seen ALL that was more or less my introduction to RP. I noped out of there so fast, due to anxiety.

By Eastern Kingdom species maybe. Night Elves felt very responsible for the worgen. And the Draenei are too Holy Light to not feel pity for the cursed, also they’re aliens so werewolves aren’t the wierdest thing they’ve seen.

I don’t recall any Demon Hunters joining the Alliance, though the Illidari did operate in Stormwind during Legion.

I’d say, now a days, you’d not see much issue as a Worgen walking around, though it is considered polite to remain in human form. Way back when they were new, that is where all the issue lies.

And seeing a Worgen walking around, to me, is less of an issue than seeing someone fully armed and ready to attack, or a group of Demons, or Demon Hunters, or for that matter, Death Knights…
