You are talking about the Guldan wlocks,but on Azeroth majority of them are former mages.
From the Chronicles we have clear power output and Arcane is weak against fel,thats proven.
I agree Dk’s are stronger then Mages in lore,cause of there rune magic.But overal they are maybe 3.-4. strongest class.
Personally, and this isn’t a WoW Lore thing, I much prefer Paladins over DKs because they once existed in the real world. DKs were pretty much invented for the game. In fact, I dislike DKs and DHs mostly for that reason - all the other WoW classes exist culturally outside of WoW and derive either from actual people or from folk tales.
I’d say they’re even if they’re both equally skilled and with similar mastery over their powers. But the thing is that the paladin needs to have a really strong faith in the Light and conviction in order to truly unleash its power.
Also, it depends on where they’re fighting. The paladin will have an advantage on the holy ground, while the DK will have an advantage on the unholy ground. On neutral ground it’s all up to their skill and mastery over Death/Light.
Ever since the Chronicle book hit us i keep thinking to my self by the order of Cosmology in that book the opposite of Dk is not Paladin as we grow accustome to but Life/Spirit which the Druids/Monk/Shamans represent the antimater is Death/Decay/Shadow.

But still DK’s are compared with Paladin today (and opposite).

Off topic, but, imo Paladins are the World of Warcrafts Super Saiyans
Think people are just to accustome to it,and you cant beat out of people the 10 maybe even 20 years of established old lore if we take into account warcraft 1-2 where it was always Dk vs Paladins.
They should be pretty much on the same level. But for the sake of story in the end the good guys always win

One of the best feeling/story in SWToR was playing the light side Sith Warrior.
Thats why im gonna go for Revendreth with my Paladin.
True, can not count how many Sith Warriors i leveled just to experience all the story options
