hey, im new to tanking and for some reason i tend to lose aggro fairly easily. i invite people with around the same item level as me to the group and i still sometimes lose aggro of non casters even then.
its really bad when i got someone in my group whos a bit better equipped. its like herding cats and i can kiss my threat good bye.
i use convoke at the start of packs to generate threat and use thrash pretty much on cool down (and swipe of course).
im pretty sure i must be doing something wrong but im kind of at my wits end.
This, migh be issue, convoke is rng, chances are u go in, pop convoke and in first two seconds of it u do rejuvation, few IFs, moonfire and maybe wrath…
Idealy, in every dungeon, u wanna be first to hit pack, u can leave old trash at few % and run ahead, but dont run too much away from your healer.
Once u run into pack, u wanna trash+swipe right away. If u need rage for IFs, mangle and then swipe again. Depends on target u moonfire, but by the time u start moonfiring u should have enough threat to be comfortable.
Dont be scared to ask for MD or ToT, it helps a lot.
Also there are few specs that will rip your threat no matter what.
If u have any more specific question or issue, feel free to ask.
Use brambles talent as it is the best DPS/threat option for that row but your rage gen will be lower a bit.
Enchant your gear. You don’t have to use the most expensive enchants while you are still gearing up and replacing a lot of pieces. The cheap version of each enchant is also good. It’s a small stat boost, but every little bit helps.
If you can afford it, use consumables like flasks, oils and buff food.
Use an addon that shows threat on nameplates (I use ElvUI personally, but there are many alternatives). This will help you determine easily which target needs your attention/taunt.
Mark a target with Skull (typically most dangerous target) and tell your group to focus that one. This will make it easier for you to hold aggro on other targets with thrash/swipe/moonfire while taunting and mangling that single target. Even when using AOE abilities most DPS classes will do most damage/threat to their main target. If each DPS in your group is focusing a different target, it will be hard for you to hold aggro on all of them.
Give priority to keeping moonfire dot on targets over swiping when tanking less than 4 targets.
If you have a rogue or a hunter in your group ask them to tricks or misdirect monsters to you. Those abilities have short CD and can be used frequently.
Read/watch guardian druid guides on icy-veins, wowhead, youtube, etc. For more info on how to gear, enchant and play guardian.
It really depends on what you’re losing aggro to. Some specs like WW monk, Fury/arms Warrior, Ret Paladins have very frontloaded damage. If they take aggro from you on a pull, it’s usually their fault and not yours (although most of them don’t realize it). Since Blizzard nerfed threat in BfA and then once more at the start of Shadowlands, a lot of tanks struggle with losing aggro if they don’t have a hunter or rogue to help them on a pull. Some dpsers still play like it’s Legion and threat doesn’t matter, like warriors charging in and bladestorming before you have even pressed a single thrash.
Obviously you can always improve your gameplay, but sometimes it’s as simple as dpsers not giving you a few seconds to pull. Some people don’t understanding if they just let you round up the mobs properly they will actually do more dps because everything is stacked up.
