Lost Item During Gear Upgrade

Hi.
I used a Gear Upgrade on my hunter and now she doesn’t have her Dartol’s Rod of Transformation anymore :frowning: .

I was wary about using it and tested it on my Demon Hunter first and saw that EVERYTHING in thier inventory was returned via mail. Feeling like it should be ok I did it on my Hunter. When I went to the mailbox, to collect all the stuff I wanted to keep, Dartol’s Rod of Transformation was there but didn’t get put into my inventory when I clicked it!

I looked at Item Restoration but it wasn’t listed there. So I made a ticket but the response was

I know that you’ve tried everything you can to get the item mailed to you, however the item only gets deliverd when the quest is completed.

Also please note that the quest is no longer available in the game, so we would recommend leaving a feedback to our developers.

I guess the GM just Googled the item and clicked on the first link to find out what it was because the first link is to Wowhead CLASSIC where the item is given as a reward for completing the quest, however that was NOT the case in vanilla: you had to abandon the quest instead of completing it to keep the quest item in your inventory.

Is there any way I can get it back? As they stated, it’s not available in the game anymore: it’s a mark of a vanilla player. I’d even be fine with my character being rolled back to before the Gear Update since I would NEVER have done it if I knew I’d lose that item and, to be honest, am probably NEVER going to use it again because I don’t know what else is going to just disappear.

My in-game ticket just got closed so I guess I’ll ping here again. When can I get my item back that the game automagically discarded for me?

I got an in-game mail for the quest item from the Coren Direbrew… so apparently I can get mail containing quest items but not the one I actually want and that was removed from my own inventory due to an automated “upgrade” feature?

I’m sorry to hear about this, but indeed there is no way to re-obtain this item, including through Customer Support.

I understand the sentimental value this would have had for veteran players like yourself, and I can only say I’m sorry I didn’t have better news.
