In pretty much every MMO I usually have four active characters of which one is my main (obviously).
Before Shadowlands it was fun playing all four of’em.
With a few months into Shadowlands I already struggled and now… I only play my main.
I keep trying to play my Alts, but there’s too much repetitive stuff and pointless grind I would have to drag myself through. And then there is this pointless Unpruning (What the Hell does Primal Strike add to your Class Fantasy?!) and that Covenant system.
I just can’t…

Got you bro, I got 2 alts and main and I lost all love for game, there is so much idiotic, boring and repetive content were forced to do, the campaing is so boring and I’m forced to do it on every single alt. After Choreghast and all those shi**y weekly and daily q I’m so tired I’m logging off+the voult… Got 2x weeks on my 2x alts worthless items I allready had and they are not geared in good items. 3 days more of sub, but I don’t think I will resub. Only my friends keep me in game but we got our discord server…

Alts are too much work at the moment.
Friend 1: “DH’s are strong in arena atm, I may go fotm”.
Friend 2: “You need to get gear, get renown, get conduits and grind torghast for a legendary”
Friend 1: "
screw that"

Since 9.1 I have only really concentrated on my main. My other 3 level 60’s (whom I levelled in the drought between 9.0 and 9,1) are now way behind.

As an altoholic, I gave up on SL completely and am now mainly lurking around on TBC.
SL is just not fun on alts.

In FF this works because you can change jobs with one char.
Here we have one class for one char. If you wish to swap you have to regrind the whole shenanigan once more.
I lost my motivation to play alts too. I play my main and one other, but I avoid doing Korthia grind and torghast. My old main has now become the “flask crafter”. What a shame.

I’d play alts if they get rid of the covenant campaign and bring back flexible raids

This is the first expansion I’ve not really bothered with alts much, the added issue is that I have to run four characters in four covenants just to be able to collect things. That is hugely time consuming and I have no inclination to do anything else on alts.
I’m not someone who really gears other alts, but I usually level at least one of everything in addition to my profession bubble army. I also tend to level an Alliance. The levelling experience alone through SL is offputting, we have to go through the Maw, and then I’m either I’m locked into a rigid storyline or threads which doesn’t quite offer enough variety on what to do.
I’m trying not to get sucked into to doing too many chores I dislike so I’m only putting my main through those.

Gotta agree playing alts is horrific. You just can’t get gear remotely fast any more. 2 weeks of hitting korthia hard on my war, doing keys daily and grinded everything. He’s still way less ilevel then my main was in January. Why is 200 loot so rare in korthia? Armaments are extremely rare not had 1 in over a week. Stygias been nerfed into the ground and 2 days work to buy a random 200ilevel item with random stats?
It’s base level is 3ilevel higher then last seasons world quests, speaking of why is this not higher yet? Did it need to be time gated behind 6 weeks of campaign. Add in doing 9/9 campaign, then korthia campaign. Grinding 5500 ash, then 3 weeks+ of cinders. Grinding out all the conduits and score and everything else.

Ever since legion, I dropped alts. Does not mean I could find some windows to play another character. And I could hold doing that up to 8.1.
Once 8.2 launched, I just couldn’t find time and energy to play another char as regrinding those systems was unfun.
And here we are in SL, an expansion in which we have dozen of systems that are not account wide. So yeah, I’ve been a “monogamous” player since 8.2 and I think that’s the best way to keep some current game issues away.

I’m probably in the minority here with saying I don’t have much issues there, some but nothing major.
I got currently 7 alts that are max level with 4 of them having maxed out sanctum upgrades and the other 3 have varied. My main is maxed out an renown while the others are a few behind. All expect 1 is running Korthia doing the some of the dailies and weekly quest there. I usually do everything on my main and the rest reach the same point at some point, no hurry really.
And no, I don’t spend all day playing, usually about 2-4 hours a day, might take a day off too. I mostly do collecting, mounts, transmogs, not so much end game stuff so gearing for me isn’t the most important thing while all my alts are around the same ilvl as my main. I usually just do the raid once during the patch just to see how it is and that’s about it.
Got lucky with my korthian armaments and geared my latest lvl 60 with those, only got 1 duplicate there. I do agree tho that they would make them so that you know you’ll get a chest piece or legs etc. This kind of rng is quite a pain.
Same, I mean I’m trying for 1 alt but man it is slowly killing the game for me
Oh man, who else looks at “On the Offensive” achievement with dread…
At one point I think it was Ion that mentioned “we don’t understand the philosophy to why people make alts” around the beginning of BfA.
Followed by a jab of the community saying “Making an allied race is literally an alt”
Don’t let them fool you, they still don’t understand why you should make an alt when their glorious systems are there to keep you playing one character.

WoW has one of the most diverse player bases of any game so ppl obviously have very different reasons for doing things
I hope you’re joking
It’s like asking why people play different games when they have already one, same applies to movies, books etc.

My main is a healer, but I also have a tank and 2 DPS for some variety and to keep me interested. I just havent had the time to do my tank and DPS since 9.1

I agree. I usually love playing my 2 alts alongside my main, but I have absolutely no desire to do anything on them during this expansion. Whenever I log in and see them, and toy with the idea of gearing them up, I just think of all the stuff I need to do and I’m immediately turned off by the idea.
You’d think Blizz would make it easier to maintain alts, since they love designing the game around stretching out gameplay to make us log in for longer. I’d actually play more if it was easier to play alts, but since it isn’t, I log off once I’m done on my main.

This season I’m a DH tank, last season I was a paladin tank, same as BFA (Season 4: hunter, Season 3: Monk, Season 2: Mage, Season 1: Paladin/Hunter)… and so on. I like trying different things after a period or it’d get stale and I stop enjoying it.
