Low GPU usage RTX 3070

Hello everyone, so here my new adventure/quest! Yesterday i change my old GPU MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X to MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio. And how to i was wonder when i saw exactly same fps with new card as i had on my old. The difference from this two cards is huge! Then i check GPU Load and new RTX 3070 always sits at 40% GPU load and it suppose to be above 90%.
My RIG: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x.
Ram: G.Skill 16 GB DDR4 3600 MHz Trident Z Neo
Motherboard: Asus rog strix B550 F gaming.
SSD: Samsung 970 Pro.
Here what i tried to do to fix it:

  1. Unplug card and check all power connectors etc.
  2. Removed all video drivers in safe mode via DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and reinstall latest ones.
  3. Checked all Nvidia control panel settings, everything is default.
Also i checked other drivers and everything up to date, even bios, during any test of card it hits 100% load so card is fine, also checked it though OCCT, 0 errors.
Any ideas? I simply cant understand how to fix it :frowning:
  • What is your resolution and quality settings?
  • Did you tried without addons?

Aside of that:

  • You can run a synthetic benchmark to see if your GPU is performing on the same level as other RTX 3070 - at minimum run “userbenchmark” (it show percentile performance for every component).
  • WoW in many instances is CPU bound so better GPU won’t help there

Full HD, at synthetic benchmark GPU Load is 100%. Card is absolutely fine, my guess that card cant be loaded with current wow engine.

You’ve not capped the fps in graphics settings by any chance?

Solution was found, WoW Engine cant load this card at Full HD resolution. Thx for tips guys

Can you elobarate on this? I also changed to a 3070 and get way higher fps outside of cities, but in Org for example I get same as my old 1060  Outside of cities gpu usage is like 90%+, but in cities it goes down to 50% and so does fps…

U can run any synthetic benchmark and if ur GPU load hits 100% u had no issues with card. But problem is that in cities mostly ur card hits max performance/per. visuals it sits in low usage and then u can enter lfg with max settings or epic battleground and see gpu usage difference. But as i mention before WoW engine is so old=bad that modern cpu/gpu cant be loaded since old optimization. And we can wait for Nvidia drivers optimization coz this cards is new on market.

Got ya, thanks. Such a shame, but I upgraded for Cyberpunk etc anyways

Well the 3070 is overkill for 1080P anyways, especially in WoW.
You will be heavily CPU-limited.

Outside of cities you are more GPU limited than CPU on max settings usually.
In cities there are a lot of players and NPCs, thus you are CPU-limited (even on a 10900K).

CPU load hits only 45% max  I always thought that now days biggest load comes on gpu but i was wrong at least at WoW.

Depends a lot on the game most MMO’s tend be more heavily CPU bound than most games, but it also depends on the CPU and GPU combo and what resolution you are running @1080p with a 3070/3080/3090 you will be mostly CPU bound in a lot of games even with the 10900k or the new 5950x CPU but if you are running@1440p you will be mostly GPU bound in a lot of games and @4k you will be GPU bound in nearly every game.

WoW can also easily max out your GPU if you are running higher res then 1080P and higher refreshrates than 60.
My 2070S is maxed out when im not CPU-limited (1440P, 144hz display, Ryzen 3900x).

It not close to 50% usage without fps limit, my main monitor is 144hz and capping at 150-160 fps or remove cap didn’t change GPU load at all.

Yeah but the 3070 is overkill for 1080P u know that right
Besides that, you can just enable supersampling (200% resolution scale) and enjoy an amazing image quality.
