Hi all,
I've been lvling up a prot warri for a couple days now, mostly doing dungeons. I have full heirloom gear, so its usually pretty easy going.
Recently I've noticed that whenever I get into groups with shadow priests, they steal my aggro from mobs like there is no tomorrow.
It doesn't just happen when there is groups and they aren't attacking my main target, but even during boss fights with single target I'm seriously fighting to keep aggro.
Looking at Omen, they are always around 100% of threat, but any other DD is far behind at what, 15% or so.
Recount on the other hand shows that the shadow priest wasn't event the higest DPS, with retri palas ahead in DPS but far behind in threat.
Any idea whats going on? Is this some odd mechanic with shadow priests I don't know about?
I have noticed this, too. It seems like Shadow priests returned to being the aggrothieves they used to during... well, I think it was WotLK where I regularly had to include Fade into my rotation during raids...
It's mostly shadows, though. I have no idea what happened and why...

They need to use fade spell. Drops aggro instantly.
You don't have fade until somewhere in the 70s I think (would have to look it up). But you draw instant aggro as soon as ragefire chasm...
Back in vanilla Mind Blast used to generate excessive threat. Maybe it's back?

Ok, I'm sure you're right. :) Been long since I lvled a priest and not updated, made a too spontane comment....
it kind of is, with the insta voidform talent + pre mindblast, if the tank doesn't generate enough threat by dmg then it directly goes to the sp.
same with adds and the dot spread(dark void) + insta-vf
the thing about fade is sometimes if the tank does not generate threat by damage it will aggro another person and absolutely wreck them...sometimes.
edit : i see someone mentioned pre level 70's. its definitely a void form precast.

From what I have felt with several priests in high and low level (yes, I am one of those weird people :P), a lot of threat is generated when SW:P crits the moment you use it, as well, of course, anything having to do with voidform.
The only way for a shadowpriest in lowlevel not to aggro a mob is to, like, set your dots, hope SW:P won't crit, use mindflay a little and then widdle thumbs for a minute until you may dare to attack again. If you use your full skillset (depending on your level, of course) there's nothing a tank can do. I haven't tried at max-level, though, because I end up healing most of the time...
I just wonder if this would be rather be addressed via bug report or customer support forums? Because since it is ONLY shadow having this problem it might not be intended.

Yeah that's does sound weird, i never experienced it myself but then again i never played the current SP on low level, if you're sure about it being a dot tic then might as well report it :)!!
Not especially the dot tics now that I think about it... it's just everything that crits. And in lowlevel, shadowpriest seems to crit a lot nowadays. I will have a try at it this weekend with one of my lowbies to so if I can specify it...*shrugs*
