Low/Unstable fps with good specs?

I’ll use Duskwood as a reference, as its an older zone and thus expected to run better, though similar experience in new zones.

My fps wildy springs between 90-350fps all the time, i dont have anything i would call a stable fps, but that would likely be around 110fps.

It’s a fresh install, fresh PC, all drivers updated an running.

Specs:
r7 9800x3d
rtx 5080
32gb ram

Naturally my settings are maxed out, but it doesnt change much if i go up and down settings wise, and i’m usin 1440p.

I’d hope for a more stable and smooth experience with such specs, so perhaps something is wrong?

I am having a similar issue.

recently upgraded my rtx 3070ti to a rtx 5080. I was expecting a huge increase in performance (which I have in some games using frame gen).

However, I feel that there is an issue (perhaps with my cpu/ram). I have a 12700kf with 32GB of ddr4 ram. I have ran time spy benchmark and had well below average score. my mate has a worse gpu and cpu and yet seems to be able outperform my pc in some scenarios

My PC

12700kf oc’d to 5.0ghz 32GB ddr4 RAM RTX 5080 Playing at 3440x1440p (ultrawide) Ultra settings (including ray tracing high)

FPS in main city: 95 FPS in battleground: 150

Mates PC

Ryzen 5800x 32GB ddr4 RAM RTX 3080 Playing at 2560x1440p Ultra settings (including ray tracing high)

FPS in main city: 60 FPS in battleground: 225

As you can see, I am playing at higher res but have better gpu and cpu. I also get better fps in main city but he smashes mine in battlegrounds.

I am concerned that there is an issue with my cpu as it should be doing better than this, the time spy result was bad and I am seeing low performance in other games too that are cpu bound like planet coaster 2.

Could it be a power issue? I have a 850w Corsair psu which should be good enough?

I have fresh install of windows 11 and latest nvidia drivers.

I can add myself to this conversation:

CPU: Intel i7-14700KF (with latest microcode for BIOS from mobo manufacturer website)
GPU: RTX 4080 SUPER
RAM: 32GB 5600 Mhz (XMP on via BIOS)

Playing with 1440p 32" 180hz gaming monitor.

FPS runs on same level as yours. I can confirm that reason apparently is the age of the game; every AAA-title out there, lets say Cyberpunk 2077 for example, which is really GPU-heavy, indeed uses GPU over CPU. And yeah, even our CPU’s should be more than capable for running WoW, this game only uses few cores, not all. This might cause lower FPS.
Even if you disable all Addons, FPS increase might not be that big.
