No, it’s gonna suck. I’ve got ~11k intellect, 442 ilvl, and the shield is giving 21775 absorb in the raid environment. With the 30% buff, the shield provided is going to be around 30-34k (without mastery active), and it’s just simply 3 times worse than the 5-man shield buff mages provide with a 2 min cd. Next week it will only be twice as bad, so keep your heads up lol. The numbers are still severely undertuned, considering that PW:B basically does not have any cap on the amount damage it can reduce.
Imo, LB needs at least x2.5/x3 modifier from what we’ll have next week for it to start seeing any play in raids, not to mention m+. At the current state, your PW:R does more raw healing than LB, applies atonement, is often instant and costs twice as less mana with the set proc + you still have access to the major -25% DR once every 3 minutes which is massive.
Conclusion: with the upcoming buff LB might start seeing use in LFR content and +2 to +9 keys XD
PS: still, no one stops u from using it, esp if you often find yourself forgetting PW:B exists…
Quite honestly, I don’t understand why people always siht on Luminous Barrier. Yes, it’s a comparatively weak absorb and in a lot of situations, PW: Barrier will be better, hands down.
But there are dungeons where PW: Barrier is just not very good. Think of Underrot. Where the heck do you want to use PW: Barrier? First boss? No. Second boss? No. Third boss? Maybe, but still very inconvenient. Last boss? No. You could use it for the trash, but you don’t need to. However, Luminous Barrier during the second, third and even fourth boss is pretty cool. It’s an extra absorb that helps with the healing.
Or take Neltharion’s lair. You could use PW: Barrier during the third boss fight, but it will most likely be very inefficient because everybody’s all over the place all the time. And the last boss? Where do you need PW: Barrier there? If the add is not killed fast enough and there’s no crystal wall left, PW: Barrier won’t save your tush.
I will admit, PW: Barrier can be very useful for certain trash mob groups, especially in a fortified week, but apart from that, it’s almost useless in that dungeon.
So, yeah, Luminous Barrier is not super strong, but there are at least some instances I can think of where it’s arguably better than PW: Barrier.
