Lvl 60 before starting the Shadowlands questline... big mistake!

Silly me.

The timewalking event started and I thought it a fun way to get from 50 to 60 quickly, so my questrewards in Shadowlands were better. How wrong I was… I totally expected the new zones to scale up with your level while questing! It is how it was before, wasn’t it? At least the last few expansions.

So now I am at the start of a boring as hell questline with zero challenge and useless questrewards to look forward to. So I figured; ah heck, I will just make this a PvP alt and gear him up like that. However the freaking PvP gear vendor is invisible if you haven’t done the questlines yet.

Ah well, lesson learned, this character I will most likely abandon and make a new alt. I tried the new expansion’s questing on another character and got sick of it at 57.

I’ll just play some relaxing alts and try to forget about this whole expansion for now. Shadowlands questing ain’t worth the headache and boredom to me since I am not interested in endgame anyway.

Have fun guys, sorry for wasting your time reading my rant, I had to get this off my chest.

TL;DR: Shadowlands quests and mobs not scaling is insert long line of negative words.

Have you played the entire questline out before? In case not, you need to do it at least once in order to unlock the alternative levelling system that essentially allows you to skip the questing “Threads of Fate” and avoid such issues in the future.

This system is essentially picking your covenant off the bat and “fill a bar” in a zone with dungeons or world quests or side quests and once completed you hand it in for some renown and a piece of gear. You don’t even have to do any of these, you could timewalk or PvP your way to 60 after choosing your covenant and all the major questlines will be marked as done for your character anyway, opening up the end game to you upon ding 60.

Here is a guide that may describe it a lot better than me: https://www.wowhead.com/guides/threads-of-fate-shadowlands-adventure-mode-leveling

Imagine if you had just finished it on that level 57 and then being able to skip the whole thing on this new level 60 through threads of fate

Thanks for the info, will probably finish it on that 57 then… and indeed: if only I had known

This is a really clear example of Blizzard NOT EXPLAINING their intentions to players.

I knew about the whole Covenant/Threads thing because I keep up with the forums and the news, but why should we expect players in general to do that? Get in. Play the game. It will work out - right? Err, no.

Tbh, I wasn’t really clear on it myself at the start, but I had gathered that there was a Campaign of quests that you HAD to do on your first 60, and the quests given would get you almost exactly to 60, so any activity outside questing would be wasted. I knew that much. Because Wowhead et. al. were telling me. So that’s what I did.

IMO, this whole mandatory linear story thing is a BAD IDEA, for several reasons, but if you really insist on inflicting it, the least you could do is TELL the poor innocent schmucks coming through that it’s their only choice.

Qualetaga, I sympathise. And indeed finishing off that 57 is your best option right now.

Or just play the timewalk dungeons?

Imagine playing an expansion and getting mad that the game requires you to play the expansion. You literally need to go through the campaign leveling once, then you can skip it on any character anytime you want.

I am not mad about the game making me play the expansion at all, I just expected that the quests and mobs in the zones would level with me which would make it more fun to do and the rares still challenging.,… and the writing overall to be better.

But mostly I was just ranting because I had just found this non-scaling out and was still feeling kinda bummed about the ending of the war questline of BfA as a true loyalist. The ending was a let down and then no scaling. I just felt like a quick rant.
