M+ Leavers!

Blizzard needs a punishment for people that leave during keys, they’re getting away with it far to easy. Players put a lot of time and effort leveling their keys to a level that suits them. Then to have some idiot join and leave. Personally, i would have some sort of flag system so when you’re building a team you can see how many times players have left a left or just take away their weekly loot for that week. This would teach them!

Couple of questions:

  • How do you stop people from just AFKing or trolling, instead of straight out leaving? If they don’t leave, they don’t get a penalty, but AFKing/trolling wastes the other’s time, and none of them will want to leave, because then they would get the penalty.
  • If you kick someone, and they get a penalty, what stops people from abusing that?

While it would certainly be nice if you could see who’s a notorious leaver, it’s not so black and white. There are many legit reasons for leaving. (Eg, when you join a run titled “+15 timed”, and you end up as top DPS after the first few packs as a healer, then there’s zero point in staying and wasting your time.)

If you want to be safe, don’t PuG. Join a guild or community, and run with them. PuGs are always a risk - you can have leavers, volcano huggers, DPS pulling 10k single target at 470 ilevel, tanks running through a ring of peace on necrotic week to refresh their stacks instead of clearing it, and I could go on. Don’t like it? Don’t do it.

What if the team composition is bad for given key level, affixes and dungeon and can’t do the run even with like 20-40 deaths?

What if one or more players in the team is severely underperforming making it impossible to continue?

There is no way to make a system that would distinguish valid cases from greed cases when someone leaves.

1- simple, if you don’t have time for the key, or if you know you need to go afk during key time, DON’T SIGN UP! People that sign up are committing to the relevant time it takes to either deplete or time the run. Would you join a key knowing you only had 15 mins before you had to go?

2- That’s a different reason, i clearly stated people who leave the key. Its down to the key holder to do their research on the players. If a player is not preforming due to (i.e. tacs, low dps etc) that’s down to the key holder for inviting them. If the key holder decided to kick that player, that player shouldn’t be punished.

Noted! But a lot of social players don’t have time to keep up the requirements for mid/high end guilds for M+, raids etc, so they pug and being punished when people leave their key. Can take you 10-30min+ to form a group, one wipe a player leaves or goes ‘afk’ and its ruined your key. Waste of time and the player left gets away empty handed.

What if I signed up for a “+15 timed” run, and we obviously will fail the timer? I have time for a timed key, I signed up for a timed run, I’m not interested in wiping for two hours for maybe finishing the key. I will stick around if its the last boss or so, but if we’re just past the first boss when we fail the timer, then it’s just a waste of time.

So, if getting kicked doesn’t induce a penalty, leavers would just need to AFK or troll until getting kicked, and receive no penalty. The group will not be able to finish the key either way, and the leaver receives no punishment. So what did we win again?

There are both guilds and communities with very little requirements, specifically tailored for very casual people. As in, bring your key, don’t be a total Donald, and that’s it.

Why is this not in General…?

General is already full of those threads.

Completely understand, but why is it ‘obviously’ you will fail the timer? Again that’s down to the key holder to check players before inviting. But in this circumstance, lets say everyone is brain dead and has no clue on tacs or low dps to beat the first boss or a player constantly keeps going afk. Then a system needs to be in place so that you can report that player for being afk, and only that player will be punished. As i stated before, when signing up to a key your committing the time and effort to complete or deplete the key. However, if the group knows they can’t beat say the first boss then all players should be able to agree to disband the group with no punishment, (like a ready check with yes and no option for a disband) that’s completely different than signing up to a key and just leaving or going afk

If. If I’m in a +15, and we have 5 minutes left just past the first boss, that is going to be a depleted key no matter what. Checking players before inviting is no guarantee.

No. If I sign up for a “+15 timed” run, I do not commit to completing a depleted key. That’s what chill and weekly runs are for. If I join such, yeah, I’ll stick around. If I join a timed run, and we won’t make it, that’s not what I signed up for, and I will leave unless we’re very close to finishing.

That’s kinda useless. Anyone who’d leave now, can easily just AFK or troll and force a disband vote that way, receiving no punishment. If you can kick for AFK, they’d just avoid being AFK and troll instead. If you can vote kick and the voted out gets punished, that’s ripe for abuse.
