As the title says, M+ level should be permanently unlockable so that players who timed +15 of let’s say Court of Stars can now choose to run it at +16 as many times as they want without worrying about ruining a key.
The current key system is too toxic to pug, creating a group for a high key just to have people leave after the first pull or in the middle is way too common. I don’t necessarily think that it’s wrong for people to leave if their expectations aren’t met but the key owner shouldn’t be penalised for that.
If people didn’t have to worry about ruining their keys, the toxicity of high level mythics would be greatly reduced. People would also be much more comfortable to push their limits or to play with other random players. We would be able to focus on enjoying the challenge of the dungeon instead of worrying about the lottery of finding the right people who will actually time the key so it doesn’t get downgraded.
Failing to time a key might not sound like such a big deal to some people because you can always upgrade it again. However, that isn’t the case for casual players. If all I need is +16 dungeons for the crafting material I get at the end, then having my key downgraded to +15 because I didn’t win the player lottery is a big deal. I’m not going to use the +15 key until it resets to a higher + on Wednesday because investing 30+ minutes into timing a +15 with no in-game benefit is too much. I will opt for joining other people’s +16 runs which presents another big issue, people only invite the highest item level or highest rating players for their runs because of all of the above.
It’s a terrible system that only breeds toxicity in the mythic dungeon community. There is absolutely no benefit to having the keys downgrade.
Blizzard is trying to make everything in the game meaningful and ruining it in the process. It’s a game, focus on making it enjoyable not meaningful!
Edit: I’ve seen in another thread someone mention that boosts are a problem with this type of system where M+ levels are unlocked permanently. This can be easily resolved by requiring all the levels beneath to be timed before unlocking the next level. So people wouldn’t be able to just get boosted in +20 to unlock it permanently, they would have to have timed +19, +18, +17… and so on all the way down to +2. If someone would still pay to get boosted in all those levels just to unlock one higher then they are in such a small minority that we should not even consider them.
