Way back in Legion when m+ came out you could potentially get 3 chests that could give you loot. Of course this meant that people started to leave when it was clear the timer wasn’t going to be upgraded +2 or +3 so they changed it.
Right now timing they key and loot are not connected. You get 2 items as long as you finish the dungeon. I’ve seen people getting items from the chest 5 times in a row and I’ve seen (and experienced, sadly) people getting zero loot in 5 runs.
I get it, it’s RNG, the slotmachine dopamine dispenser that runs WoW, but it’s not fun gameplay imo. I propose that timing a key at least gives the whole group one extra item, just one, so that 3 out of 5 people get loot. It won’t break the system in such a way that loot suddenly becomes too abundant, but it’s going to be a noticable change.
People already leave when there’s even a hint of not timing the key, so this won’t impact people leaving imo.
That or give us some form of bad luck protection when opening your 5th chest without loot.
While we’re at it give us slightly more flightstones in the chest, too, but that would just be a nice-to-have
We now get a tiny lower item as 2nd reward when we do not time the key, and we get less crests. I would not want an extra reason to abandon dungeons that aren’t getting timed with a 3rd loot item only when timed.
That’s the thing. People are already leaving when there’s even an inkling the timer won’t be met, so that’s not going to change things. Not to mention keys up until 18 are not hard to time, at all.
And this is untrue I think? No matter if you time the key or not, you get 2 pieces of loot that correspond with the level of the key. Only crests are affected when you don’t time it, which is a reason why people are leaving.
Has always been the case I believe. In SL it was the same. You were never penalized in the ilvl for not timing a key. WoWhead and all other sites just lists the ilvl you get in the chest when you complete the dung, regardless of timing it.
No, you were punished for not timing a key on the 2nd reward. Very possible it is changed previous season since we can upgrade now and it didnt make sense anymore.
In BFa you got a 3rd item when you timed a dungeon. In SL that 3rd item got removed.
More loot already comes in higher content. Starting from 20, every level after gives you 20% chance to get an extra item, meaning that at +25, you get 3 items.
If you miss the timer but complete the dungeon, one piece of loot at the correct item level, and one piece of loot one item level tier lower. The Mythic Keystone will point to a different dungeon that is one level lower than the one you just used.
It’s like that for 2 expansions. And I’ve seen in in practice. Can’t really find the article where the change was published, but I’ve done 40 keys over 20 this season, and saw 3 items drop multiple times. The system was in place even before, starting from +15.
Yikes okay this is news to me. Ty both for clarifying. The rewards being lower when you don’t time the key is logical but somehow I never noticed this.
So you do get three items on high keys but imo this should be the case in all keys.
The fact remains that some people do 5+ dungeons without getting loot, and getting an extra item for timing the key would be a solution I believe.
Again, based on my experience is fine. The season takes 6 months, give or take. This is the 4th week, and I’m not really going into dungeons for loot, but for score. Now…having 3 items/dungeon, would mean even less time to gear the character, which will probably end the season even faster for me. And yes, I know I am like this because I have plenty of time to do it, but even for a casual player, who has under 10h per week, 6 months is more than enough to have the gear. Also, there is the RNG in vault, which means that the more time you spend in matter of weeks, the less runs you’ll have to make, as at some point, you’ll get part of the items from vault.
In SL, I think S1 they changed it so you get 2 loot pieces if you time a key, and a single one if you do not time the key.
This by S2 got changed into you getting 2 loot pieces regardless if it is timed or not, but if it wasn’t timed then one of the items were 3 or 6 ilvls lower.
As to the proposal: I am game for them introducing BLP so people don’t go up to 6+ keys without loot, but 3 loot pieces per dungeon is already too much loot from a content that is endlessly repeatable.
The only way I can see it working is if thry change how the system works: m+ dungeons become weekly and everyone gets loot at the end, but only once per dungeon. You can still repeat the dungeons for crests and flightstones, and perhaps extras like transmog tokens of drops that are transmoggable, but no actual gear until a reset happens.
