M+ State and why I'll probably unsub

Ok. So this is a sad day for me.

I’m the runner of a small community based around Keys for inexperienced players and players with anxiety. The community has been running well since BfA. Until now.

With the introduction of delves and the tuning of M+ difficulty, things are pretty dead.

I’ve made the decision to stick out the game until the 20th Anny event (want the mog), but after that, I’ll be unsubbing if something doesn’t change by then. Now, I know no one cares. But it’s something I’ve been talking about with my community friends so I figured I’d just do my due diligence and let Blizz know in the only way I can before I do pull the plug.

I know they dropped a bunch of changes last night - Gilded at +8, and some targeted nerfs. But I think it’s to little to late. I agree that season 4 of DF was way to easy, but as usual, Blizz have swung the pendulum to far in the other direction. Here’s the things that have just kinda strangled the life out of the game for me and my friends:

Staggered launch
Unfun/unbalanced hero talents
Buggy encounters
Tank Nerfs
Kick/stop Nerf
trash mechanics
+7 Affix
Tyran/Fort combo at +10s
Some relatively insane M+ Bosses
Myth track placement
Crest placement and acquisition
Delves offering a way better reward structure for way less effort/time

Now a lot of these are fine in and of themselves, but all together? Oof!

Keys may have been to easy previously, but at least they felt fun. Now? Frustrating to get a group together, even with a community, and often just a frustrating waste of time with little to no rewards at the level most can achieve.

Anyway, again, this is not meant as a whine post that the “just Gitgud!” bois s#!t all over (they will regardless), but how a combination of changes are ruining the game for some of us that take it less seriously who feel like our particular preferred content is squeezing us out.

The pendulum did indeed swing too far for all the reasons you said and a lot of people feel the same.

They’ll only see it if it hits subs tho sadly. Expect them to overcompensate in S2…

I feel like it happened in DF S1. It burned me out. I got some 20s - 22s done then just stopped playing until s3. The gear changes made it worse than the recent seasons. +9 should probably give you a myth track and the removal of the +7 affix.
They are going to make more changes soon. If I had to bet massive nerfs on the next reset for a lot of dungeons. They already said on a few they are doing now.

The disparity between Mythic Raiders and M+ enjoyers when it comes to myth track gear is the thing that hurt me the most of this season.

I am tired of pampering to the Raiders. In DF I farmed Heroic Raids because the ilvl difference of some items was not that massive compared to Mythic, so it made sense.

This season I dont even bother with the raid. But I am fully aware of the consequences of not doing so. And I think they are unfair.

All of this is based on the fact that the RNG vault is NOT a proper way to gear up. For me, it dosent exist as an option. Unless they change it with things like using the 6 coins you get if you dont like anything to upgrade gear from Hero track to Myth track. THEN I would consider it as a gearing option, and a fair one with respect to raiders.

I’m in a similar boat as you, just retuned to the game I enjoy tanking in M+ doing big pulls but with the changes to gearing, tank nerfs and new system I’m thinking seriously of unsubscribing

Just posted my take on the new M+, it’s horrible and need to be fixed

Yeah I got 2 myth track items from the vault this week. One was a C tier trinket and another a bad stat ring. I had to take the ring as my hero trinket was better. I would be way better if I could focus certain gear types
My rng was great last week. I got an S tier trinket. But it feels bad getting something you didn’t really want

that M+ is in a Dire state is true, and u could see this because blizzard did that Crest Change just to ease the audiance and to hope people came back, is this enough not at all tbh, the reward u get for an M+ dungeon is crap tbh. first off why only 2 Items at the end? its bs give everyone an item tbh even if u give a lower item to the people. lets say 1 item the ilvl it should be and decrease the other items by 3 ilvls or something.

are the Affixes bad nope they are not, are there overlapping issues well some are spicy but still doable. i mean ye and i know people are going to say ofc u say its fine with the affixes u highest key is an 8. that doesnt matter tbh.

i am considering Unsubbing not because of M+ just that there is No Great overhaul of M+, M+ should be Totally changed every Season tbh come up with new ways to achieve rewards.

Everything Blizzard do is calculated, people should know this by now.

Everything is designed around retaining sub numbers, releasing content which is seen to be negative and too hard for probably 70% of the playerbase? Just means when they do decide to fix things VERY SLOWLY, there hope is it will keep you subbed for longer…

Cmon guys its not that hard to see, first was the gilded crest change, next was the Xal’atath’s Guile, these fixes are done on a weekly basis to keep you engaged and wanting to come back to try more of the content.

Guarenteed Challenger’s Peril will be the next thing that is nerfed or hopefully removed, they are just waiting for the right moment when people are so annoyed they stop logging in to make a positive change.

Its all about $$$$$$$$$$$

I would not put it past Blizzard to have a queue list of positive changes on an algorithm AI BS system that just automatically announces changes when subs drop a certain % lol, they treat us like fools and people are just blind

I wouldnt bet on it.

Blizzard Has clear agenda here.

Problem is they dont want to communicate it openly.

Last time ion made his little blizzcon presentation on "why detemrinistic gearing iscbad for Blizzard " players literaly Forced blizz to put back vp and now crests in game.

This time they wont tell openly thatctjey want to kill m+ and force players back to mythic raid

I feel you. I wouldn’t mind raiding mythic if it was on a smaller scale and easier to set up. But that’s the only reason why I do m+. I know I can get my tier from the catalyst and also get myth track gear. It’s not very reliable getting the choice of 3 rng items. I got a choice of 2 poor items this week. But it’s all I have time for now with working shifts and having kids.

I buy that argument, but at the same time making max gearing super hard/impossible for even half decent players means they’ll reach their “max” ilvl much faster in hero gear than myth gear.

Myth track is 1/week if you m+ and there is 15-16 slots to fill (depending on 2h or dw). Most will craft 2 items so that is 13-14 slots to fill.
13-14 weeks of playtime if players had perfect vault luck and always got an upgrade each week, which won’t happen ofc so it will take longer.

Upgrading hero track to max takes 570-600 crests, again depending on 2h or dw and accounting for 2x crafted gilded gear. That only takes 6.6 weeks to do which is less than half the playtime filling out myth track would take.

Now one could argue that as you upgrade your ilvl, even just running 8s each week to cap crests, you’ll eventually reach the point where you can do 10s and can start on the myth track grind.
But even getting into 8s is very difficult for those who hover around having done all 7s, since the people who can cap crests or do 10s so outgear them at this point that you’ll never get picked before them.
And getting into 10s even in weeks to come, after upgrading your gear, will have you compete with everyone who has managed to cap their vault with myth track. And those players will also still run 8s for crests, because why wouldn’t you? So the barrier to getting invited to 8s will just grow even more with time.

So blizzard has created this sort of anti player retention gearing which I don’t understand why they would do from a financial perspective.
They should want people to have access to myth track easier so they keep playing for the vault opening each week.

A Person who is not naive can easily see this.

Now we have this pile of overtuned burning garbage called M+.
