M+ Upgrades for Alts

With the new Valor upgrade system we could in 9.0.5 upgrade items till the max 12/12 on alts if we have Key Stone Master, completing a key also was account wide and it was easier to play on alts helping the main and vice-versa. Now on the other hand we saw that even if we have a score of 2000 and you get an achievement for it you can t upgrade items on an alt and i think either it was a mistake or if it is intentional then it will make players play less WoW or their alts in this Alt friendly expansion.

Could we get a fix for this please? because now it feels like we have been cheated and it is not an amazing feeling.

You can still upgrade gear on alts, just not to max level, until they reach 2k rating too. With 1400 rating, you can already upgrade gear past what a +15 would drop. So even with alts that do not run 15s, not even for weekly, you can - in theory - upgrade gear to a level past what they would normally get.

However, keep in mind that to upgrade anything, you need both the item, and Valor. The latter is a finite resource, and you can only earn 750 a week. As such, upgrading from a low ilevel to a high one is quite a big waste of it. Which in turn, means you want to run at least +12-15s to get the item you want at a reasonable level and not waste Valor. If your alt can do that, they can also achieve 2k rating.

In practice, the thing that will slow down alt gearing is not that you can’t upgrade gear to max level, but that you won’t have the Valor for it to begin with.

Which makes this whole upgrading thing moot and irrelevant in practice.

“Alt friendly expansion”

It is like they want us to play Final Fantasy. What in the world are they doing during their feedback rounds? Taking naps? the game is dead

Really? I assumed there would be a catch up mechanic where you could earn more than 750 if you were behind. Is that not the case?

Alt friendly != free gear for alts. Alt friendly doesn’t mean you don’t have to work on that alt a bit.

Also, like I said, the rating is not going to be the thing holding you back.

You can earn more if you’re behind, yes. The cap increases by 750 each week. Doesn’t make a whole lot of difference, because it’s still a finite resource, and you’ll still want to use a high ilevel item to upgrade from, so you’ll eventually get 2k rating on an alt too.

Or if not, if the alt isn’t running weekly 14/15s anyway, why does it even matter that it can’t upgrade to max ilevel gear? It’s not like your vault will be max ilevel either.

In 9.0.5, I used it as a quick catch up for a character I didn’t start playing until well into the second half of 9.0. My druid (who is my main this patch) wouldn’t have been geared enough to start 9.1 tanking +13/14s if I hadn’t been able to fill the weak spots in her gear with valor upgrades. My plan was to let my DH sit by the wayside this patch, but be ready to boost her gear up towards the end of the patch if I wanted to play her in 9.2. If any valor not earned in a week had been permanently lost, I wouldn’t have been able to do that.

…and you were only able to do that because the season was incredibly long, and you could grind out silly amounts of Valor.

Guess you’ll have to, well, play a character you want to main next patch. Don’t really see what’s wrong with that. You can still let it sit by the sidelines, and grind out the gear, the valor, and the score in the last few weeks of the season.

I mean, people are getting KSM the second week of the season. By the end of the season, reaching 2k in two weeks will be trivial, especially if you have a few friends to run keys with, and your lower gear will be wildly offset by the rest of the party. Thus, you can leave your alts on the sidelines, and grind things out late into the season, no problem.

As such, the change is, in practice, irrelevant. You can still do pretty much the same thing you did in 9.0.

You have to put the same effort into your alts like you put in your main. Sorry but this concept is crap as only people with no lives can gear their alts. It is beyond me why Blizzard shifted away from delivering a funny game to a 24/7 job simulation. Defend it all you want but this game will be dead in a couple of years if they keep on delivering content for jobless and streamers only

If you want them to be at the very same level as your main, yes. But then it’s a second main, rather than an alt, and then having to put in the same effort is warranted.

Nope. You can gear an alt fine with as little playtime as you want. It just won’t be max rank upgradeable. But if your alt isn’t doing +15s, that’s fine. It doesn’t have to have BiS gear for +10s.

Even with timing +10s, you can upgrade to heroic raid level gear, which is more than enough to get KSM, and more than enough to get started in the next season.

I mean, I have no trouble keeping two characters at similar gear levels, and I don’t play all that much. A key or two a day, maybe. No raids, no pvp either. If I want to gear a completely fresh toon, that’s very easy too: just focus on that, and do less keys on other chars. I have built a network of friends to run keys with, they’re more than happy to help gear my alt, as I help them gear theirs. Having the score isn’t a limiting factor in any shape or form, if you actually play the alt. If you don’t, then being able to upgrade gear way past the level of content it does is essentially free gear. That’s not necessarily a healthy thing.

I’m not sure why you’re making a thing out of this. I simply asked you a question, and then explained why it mattered to me when you appeared confused. What you’re saying is exactly what I did with my druid in the last patch, but it wouldn’t have been possible if valor was like soul ash (for example) where you were limited by a maximum you could earn each week.

well this concept is definetly making more and more people play FF rather then wow thats for sure.

i mean - hey if thats their goal to supply FF with a 1 mln new players by the end of summer ? they certainly do very good job .

Valor you can get also from WQ and from Taza for alts it is easy to get but it is low key annoying that we had this option before and now we dont that is all

Like I said before, having Valor is useless if you don’t have the item at a reasonable level. Yes, you can farm valor by doing WQs and low keys, but there’s still a seasonable cap, so you really want to upgrade a higher ilevel item. Thus, you really want to run higher keys. If you run higher keys, 2k isn’t hard to achieve, and will pretty much come naturally.

If you don’t run high keys, you can still upgrade, just not to max level. I don’t see what’s wrong with that. You don’t do more challenging content, you don’t get gear of that ilevel.

But we do, so I don’t understand what the problem is.

With your current M+ score, you can upgrade to ilvl 242, once you get over 2000 score, you can upgrade to 246. You can earn a maximum of 750 valor a week to pay for upgrades, and any valor you don’t spend in a week is carried over to the next week.

It’s exactly the same system as we had in 9.0.5 except that it started right from the beginning of the patch so we don’t start out with a ‘catch up’ valor cap, and the requirement for each upgrade rank is now score based rather than based on timing all the dungeons at a certain key level.
