Mac Laptop Spec

So, it’s finally time to retire my old 2013 Macbook Pro. (Goodbye old friend, you’ve served me well). It’s limping through raids at the moment, and I know it’ll never make it into Shadowlands.

I’m considering buying the following Mac laptop:

13‑inch MacBook Pro

  • 2.0GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
  • 13-inch Retina display with True Tone
  • Touch Bar and Touch ID
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics
  • 16GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory
  • 512GB SSD storage
  • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports

In real terms, how’s that going to run Shadowlands for raiding? I mean anything above my current 15fps would be amazing, so I’m hoping it should be pretty good.

Do I need to pair it with an eGPU? Apple sell the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 560 External GPU, but I’d rather not spend the extra £300 if I don’t have to!

If you had £1600 to spend on a Mac for playing WoW (although, it is primarily a work computer) what would you spend?

N.B. It has to be a Mac. I have some software that requires a Mac, and it’s non-negotiable.

CPU is better (it’s kind of annoying when the model name isn’t specified - i5-1038NG7), iGPU is also better compared to 2013 so the framerate will be better. Metal/WoW on macOS seems to work really efficiently.

Rather not. If you don’t need high graphical settings you will be limited by the CPU for most of the time.

The strongest CPU possible, some average dGPU. i5-1038NG7 in that macbook has better iGPU than previous Intel thingies but the CPU part isn’t as strong as the 14nm 9000-series mobile CPUs (non-U ones). Apple has MBP with those CPUs and some Radeon dGPU - maybe that’s a better value for it? (not only WoW but in general)
