Macbook M3 Flickering / graphical artifacts / freezing

Hey all,

Semi recently I started getting weird flashing / flickering artifacts on my screen on my Macbook running newest MacOS. It’s either pink / colored artifacts, or the “map” reloads, as in a micro freeze and an instant re-load of the zone i’m in

I noticed the frequency of these flickerings increases the higher i push the graphical settings - which is weird becuase my new M3 can handle maxed out classic WoW without any issues on high FPS…

I have tested across the board with Metal based benchmarking tools and there are no issues… even tested OpenGL.

These glitches can lead to a complete freeze where i get the spinning ball and I am forced to hard reset my laptop.
I dont mainly play WoW on my macbook but I would still like to be able to play here and there on my laptop as well so its a bit disheartening. The only “fix” i found is putting all graphical settings on the absolute minimum and that only reduces the frequency of the flashing lights.

managed to capture with video how these artifacts usually present themselves, it’s either this or a pink strobing light, but I can’t post links here

Does anyone have similar experiences on Mac? Is the logic board dying or something?

Yup i’m having the same problem on my Mac M1 Pro ever since I updated to MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1.

Dying on hardcore servers because of these crashes/freezes really sucks.

Do you have graphical artifacting show up too?
I guess we have to wait either for blizz update or Mac update lol…

Posting in case it helps anyone, it seems there is some weird VRAM interaction causing GPU to restart constantly (that’s what the freezes / artifacts are - the integrated GPU restarting)
Unfortunately the only way to mitigate this for the most part is lowering the most VRAM intensive settings to minimum. So by keeping texture quality, shadows etc to minimum, it reduces it to almost not happening for me - which is unfortunate because the game runs no problem maxed out…
Otherwise i could not figure out what the exact reason it is. Maybe something going wrong with Metal API in the background
