Is it possible that Nvidia support will be enabled in 10.x? I noticed that the (actual) minimum macOS version requirement for the 10.0 PTR patch is 10.13 instead of the (communicated 10.15 for Dragonflight). The requirements page states that if WoW can run on older/unsupported systems Blizzard won’t artificially disable that (to quote it in my own words).
I tried the PTR patch, but Nvidia support seems to be removed entirely and the game runs on the software driver (so it’s unplayable). But I wonder if there is actually a technical reason for saying goodbye to Nvidia (already). Even if 10.15 was the minimum required OS Apple still supports Nvidia graphics cards in that OS.
The reason I’m asking? I’m using a late '13 iMac with Geforce 780m GT and the graphics card is fast, pretty fast actually. It’s still faster than the graphics cards Apple put into MacBook Pros until 2018(!). So in terms of speed there is nothing to mis out of. Besides that I don’t see any reason to entirely kick out Nvidia on Mac support (now) as at least the Nvidia 700-series for Mac support the same Metal API features as supported AMD cards.
I know this is a very complex question with a probably complex answer. I also know we don’t have Mac technical forums here, but hopefully someone can answer the question. I also know the # of players affected this way will be in the early thousands at most so if it just ‘takes too much effort’ I get that, but then at least that’s clear.
I’m not posting this in the PTR forums as that doesn’t really seems the right place, since this is an in-depth technical question.
