"Macros" could need an update to help players

Hi!

So when leveling my new Shaman, I ran into a couple of issues that I often experience when playing around with macros, and thought I’d share them in hopes that they get some love as well in the future.

I know some people probably use addons to solve these issues I have with the build in macro feature, but if it exists in the game and people use it, I really think it should be up to date in the game itself.

:point_right: ISSUE 1: PvP Talent macros

Currently from what I can tell, we can only assign regular talents to Macros by doing the following:

/cast [talent:3/1] Mirror Image

But what about Macros that should be disabled on the spellbar (non clickable) when PvP talents aren’t active? So it’s still ON the spellbar, but we can’t “accidentally Bloodlust” if we press it in PvE content.

For example, I have a Shaman and use the Shamanism PvP talent, which changes my Bloodlust spell into a 1min CD mini version of itself. Meaning I need to have it ready at my finger tips at all times in PvP. But in PvE content I don’t wanna accidentally press Bloodlust during a dungeon or raid run at the wrong time (which is a BIG “no no” hehe), so currently because I am a forgetful type of person, I have to drag it back and forward on my spell bar constantly. Because my Bloodlust spell constantly changes versions on the same spellbar location, when jumping in and out of content. :man_shrugging:

It is incredibly frustrating that we can’t just create a macro that is ONLY clickable when PvP is allowed…

:point_right: ISSUE 2: Macro icons

Macro icons are incredibly bad designed when it comes to finding a specific icon… Because it has NO search field from what I can tell. If there currenty exists a way to “search a icon by keyword”, then it is incredibly hard to find.

And it is not like it isn’t easy to implement since the Weak Aura and TotalRP3 addon has the search feature, meaning that the icons already have keywords assigned to them… Again using the above “Shamanism example”, I had to manually scroll through thousands of icons, only to give up and chose a wrong icon.

Hope to see changes like this in a future patch!

The second problem has a simple solution.

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover, help, nodead][]Innervate

The first part gives you the correct icon to the spell mentioned at the end.

Doesn’t really solve it though

I’m not asking “if the icon for the macro spell can be automatically found”… I’m asking for there to be a search feature.

Shamanism is a passive PvP talent, meaning if I want to search for the Shamanism icon I can’t. Or any other icon for that matter.

If I want a “sword icon” for a Warrior macro for example, then I can’t search for “sword” anywhere. However in the Weak Aura and TotalRP3 you can, which is a bit sad considering it’s a feature that’s so basic it SHOULD exist in WoW.

you can use curseforge .com/wow/addons/larger-macro-icon-selection
for searching icons by name. e.g. searching for “shaman” gives you most of the related spells (has a small delay after typing).
should be part of the default UI but life addon makers find a way

“Macros” should be removed, IMO!!!

If you are a good player, you should be able to press the buttons by yourself! Not lazy stuff like macros…

And macros helps the bots to do stuff and spam the chat.

NO TO MACROS! GET BALLS, START PRESS BUTTONS! NUBS!

A bot doesnt need macros for chat spam.

Its about min maxing in that case. Also Warlock Portal says hello. A reason why they (after years) give us an item to bypass the macro next patch.

macros are awesome.

yes, there are the basic /target and /cast etc’

but there are also the complicated macros using scripts and game files i dont understand.
it no longer works, but i used to have a coordinate macro. it was a very long macro that showed you youro coordination with a click of a button (before it was shown on the map)

Thanks! Will check it out :slightly_smiling_face:

You have 120 action bar buttons, what the hell are you filling them with?

Why do you need the talent stuff in your mirror image macro? Try using Ctrl and Alt modifiers.

I’m guessing you didn’t really read my post, and instead just saw an opportunity to be negative and glanced over my post just enough to get a 20% idea of what I wrote.

Your reply has absolutely nothing to do with what I wrote. At all.

I never complained about lack of space on my spellbar, and I never said I needed “more space for a mage mirror image macro”. That was completely taken out of context, which shows you didn’t read (Or didn’t understand) what I wrote.

And you are not the first person to jump in here with the mindset of “I could care less about reading the post, I just wanna be toxic and only half understand what this post is about”.

My post isn’t about changing anything that in any way affects other players in the game in a negative way. They are basic quality of life improvements that just have been overlooked by Blizz, and only impacts the game positively. And somehow people try to sabotage the post with negativity because… I guess “reasons”…

Maybe I need to change the title or something to be less of a “moth to a flame” for toxic people who only go to forums to attack and complain, instead of being positive and friendly…

And just to answer your question, yes I use a 12 btn mouse and use shift, ctrl, and alt modifiers. But again…. It’s completely irrelevant to my post.

I think it was more to do with the delivery of the description of the problem.

I’m pretty sure any spell can be used in a macro, if you don’t have warmode on then you can’t use PvP talents in macros.

There is an addon that allows you to search icons names but not all sword icons have the name sword in them, you just want a huge shortcut instead of a bit of scrolling and being observant, and looking at the shaman section of the icons.

Thanks I’ll try and rephrase the post then  Really not trying to come off negative. I would just like to see parts of the game getting some love and updates.

I did find LargerMacroIconSelection addon but I haven’t tested it yet.

Edit: I just did and it puts a search box at the bottom which works. After you have used it you can turn the addon off. This was in retail WoW.

Thanks! Just found it too and will give it a try.

Hopefully the addon can solve 1 of the issues, even though I’d love to see Blizz add these features as a build in part of WoW at some point. Since this addon doesn’t “add a feature to the game”… It “patches a build in system of the game”.

EDIT: It works brilliantly
