Im new player, very solo oriented at least for now as im learning the game, I have no experience with mage only that he is not really seen as good solo pve class, I just wanted to know if the upcoming changes in 10.1.5 will shift it more towards solo pve friendly spot or is it the same or even worse?
Eeeh mages are considered bad soloers due to its kit, more then how it is now or when the rework happens.
We have no self healing. We cant dps during immunity, our sustain through shield is on CD, we have low armour and depend on cast times to deal damage.
The more damage mage does the easier soloing will naturally happen, however if ur planning to only open world pvp, it could take a while before ur geared enough to realistically aee this.
Mage isnt a impossible soloer, its not that bad, its just other options are far stronger in the job.
As far as im aware 10.1.5 isnt handing us sustainz so i imagine the squishyness wont fade.
Frost will be better i guess. It will be easier to carry out your AoE rotation, so most randoms will probably be able to produce meaningful numbers. Currently, mage can be very good, but many randoms are stupid, so I personally almost never invite them for 20+ keys nor the hunters. I don’t play much with mine right now either, as it’s not my main character at the moment.
If you read that mages are not good at solo PvE, it’s probably in regards to old raids. And that is absolutely correct, because how does a mage stay safe? Kiting. Except raid bosses run faster than you and in most cases you can’t slow/freeze them, so you are left with facetanking. Where other classes can fall back on healing, pet tanks or at least more armor, well, you’re a mage.
For open world stuff, it’s not really the same though. In most cases you can kite - actually, in most cases you don’t even need to kite - and for something like world bosses you can always just group up with no drawback.
I’m not read up on the changes but I doubt they will make mages significantly better at soloing raids. If that doesn’t interest you, then you have no reason to be concerned, not about this patch and not about the next.
