Mage char idea

Kinda just wanted to ask what peoples thoughts are on a mage using magic to change races but its the same character kinda like visage form or something

Why would they do that?

As a service, I wouldn’t be thrilled. The visage idea is fun but a strong spell that most likely keeps better on yourself, than others. Of course, it should be doable to dabble in some illusions to divert your appearances to be something else - just look at the Nightborne.

I have myself a Goblin with a mechanical/crystal device to make himself a ‘visage’ when wanting to do business with Alliance members, but I have a timer on it, so to not make it too overpowered. I’ve named it, ‘P.R.I.S.M’ (“Personalized Real-time Identity Shifting Mechanism”)

Yea i didnt mean anythign about using it on others could probably have clarified that

Yea was more of that kind of deal dealing with other faction and maybe attending some race specific events

Don’t do this, the organisers of those events set out clear specifications on what type of characters can attend for a reason and trying to loophole it like this isn’t fair to the people who are there to get what was actually advertised.

Just bring a character who actually matches the event theme instead.

That is correct. If there are preset rules like, Night Elves only, then don’t utilize such to circumvent their setup and planning. This kind should only be used in things like social interactions, or trade nights. Not more directed events.

Besides this which Halfsilver has said, which is the most important part, really; there’s also no lore of magic ‘changing’ races beyond you dying and your soul being put in another body, which would require your character to have a coven of warlocks supporting your character committing ritualistic suicide everytime there’s a party somewhere in Azeroth for some reason.

I highly suggest making characters for these events. If they truly interest you and the lore they involve, you’ll find new roleplay avenues, and new roleplay partners. If the story it involves and the roleplay avenues it could open do not interest you at all, then I really don’t get why you’d even attend one of these events to begin with.

Now there’s a market if I ever saw one.

I’m eternally envious of people who are able to come up with acronyms for goblin or gnome creations.

It was a torment to figure out… Starting out with listing words like ‘P.R.I.S.M’ or ‘C.R.Y.S.T.A.L’ etc, and then find each word fitting it… ‘P.R.I.S.M’ was the easiest but also most functional method. Was planning to use it with the race scrolls coming next expansion. When the scroll expires and goes on cooldown, the device will be marked as offline, heh.

Even then there are only 2 lore specific cases with this in the 1st Gen Death Knights and then… Xal’atath, I suppose?

Excuse me, race scrolls? What?

Aye. Apparently scrolls will be added to the game with The War Within.

Shouldn’t really call them ‘scrolls’, they address them as, ‘Gleeful Glamour’. They are made by the Enchanting Profession. These ‘Scrolls’ permit the user to transform into the race that the scroll is made for.

In Character it’s probably possible. Out of Character, when someone makes an event for Night Elves, they want Night Elves to show up, so you should probably respect that or ask for OOC permission from the organiser.

I meant as in illusions as u know magic which is a thing in wow lore not a literal race change

yea ofc that was the plan also i wasnt gonna do much influencing of any RP of other races especially races i dont know how to rp more of a observe type of deal.

Yea thats the thing i dont wanna make multiple characters taht would essentially just end up being identical but with a different name and race that feels liek a low effort thing

Illusions aren’t perfect and you’d get detected quite easily around large groups of people unless you’re an incredibly powerful illusionist. Again, as everyone has said, all this is far more work and far more senseless than simply making a character that fits the narrative, and actually finding people to roleplay in it interested in the thematic and races of the event - which, if you’re not interested in, I seriously doubt you would enjoy these events to begin with.

Then, don’t make them identical? It’s far more low effort to make a single character people just have to accept into their thematic events which you are clearly not that interested on.

Why would i show up to the event in the first place if i wasnt interested?

Why would you show up to a race-only event if you weren’t interested enough in said race to even make a character of that race that isn’t your mage character doing cosplay?

Are you really interested in these events in specific, or are you simply interested on having more roleplay avenues to attend more often without actually caring for what they are?

Obiviously im interested in few specific events and im not talking about all races im talking maybe 3-4 races at most (including what thecharacter originially is)

I dont get why u think im not interested what would the point of me asking about this idea be if i wasnt intersted

Because it’s like going into a restaurant that only serves steak and asking if there’s any way that they could cook and arrange vegetables with food coloring to the point of making it look like steak so you can fit in, because going to a different restaurant or actually eating the steak would be too much effort.

If you don’t actually want to roleplay, say, a dwarf, why attend a dwarf-only roleplay event that is heavily related to their lore and roleplay scene? It’s not that this is forbidden. They can’t physically bar you from coming. But why? What do you gain from it other than going ‘haha yeah I’m here’ and then getting bored five minutes in once you realize people would much rather roleplay with other dwarves at the dwarf event?

Also remember that Illusions don’t teach you the races language.
