I would like to become a mage-necromancer. I really, REALLY enjoyed playing as a mage in SOD. Honestly, I just adore this class, and now I’m having genuine fun, especially since I can heal now, which adds more variety to my gameplay. SOD is evolving the game, introducing new ideas, and fixing old issues. That’s why I wanted to suggest the idea of a mage-tank, as I envision it. And I would love to play as a necromancer. I think the mage class is a perfect fit for this, as Kel’Thuzad was indeed a mage. And if we delve into the game lore, we can see that necromancers were mages as well. I believe it’s possible to add a special rune or several runes that would allow us to raise skeletons or other undead creatures, which we could use as tanks and even equip with pieces of armor or weapons. Many might say, “But this was already done for warlocks in Pandaria.” But we’re not in Pandaria. This is SOD - the perfect space for experimentation.
Dear mages and representatives of other classes, what do you think?
I don’t know… I think this suits more to warlocks. Warlocks are originally known to work with dark magic, they suck their enemies’ souls and summon creatures from them, drain the life out of people it just suits them to be necromancers and summon skeletons, while mages operate with element magic - fire, frost, arcane, that’s why healing actually makes sense, using arcane magic to heal wounds.
Not that I don’t like the idea i just don’t think it suits mage as a conception. Look at how they made it now, and imagine if mages were the tanks and warlocks the healers it just… doesn’t sound right.
Also I don’t think they’ll make more general adjusments since the idea was every class to get a new role, and they’ve already done that, so I think they will just improve these roles.
I dont think they should do this one to any rune again in all honesty,
and i think metas need to be made soloable, putting meta behind not only level 25, but the process it was behind caused many players to outright quit the game, it honestly wouldnt suprise me if they make a Easymode for obtaining meta in phase 2.
i think when you make runes like this, you just cause alot of people to reroll, as theres just more casuals in the game then there are people who will go to this length.
You’re not entirely correct. Warlocks are more about fel magic, while necromancy, according to Warcraft lore, is a somewhat different school of magic that isn’t directly related to fel. This also disrupts the logic of the warlock class because they are not just fel magic users; they are individuals who gained their abilities by making direct pacts with demons, like Gul’Dan, who was a mediocre shaman but became a great warlock. Meanwhile, mages either learned or were born with magical abilities, like Jaina or Kel’Thuzad, and they didn’t make any pacts but developed their abilities through dedicated hard work.
I’m not that familiar with lore, so I fully believe what you say.
As I mentioned above - I wouldn’t mind it at all, but it’s not gonna happen probably, because that would make mages have 2 extra roles, while others got only 1 new.
Yes i can see that. It was a pain to get, and the idea of quitting crossed my mind as well. But at the end of the day, it’s the most memorable thing i did in SoD.
Just because its remmeberable doesnt mean its good.
Waiting the entire phase, to play what a Major role defining ability imho isnt amazing and i do hope blizzard has learnt this, Adventures awesome. but when it gates you out of a specific role, espically a hyped one it can let down alot of people.
Yet necromancers of the cult of the damned served the Burning Legion via the Lich King. Also warlocks are mages who went too far in their pursuit of power.
Original Death Knights were Alliance Knights raised via necromancy by Gul’dan, by raising the dead and affixing dead Shadow Council acolytes’ souls to the bodies of the knights.
Gul’dan is everything, but mage.
Warlocks are practically rogue spellcasters - everything goes for them, including, most definitely Necromancy.
Necromancy is a school of magic and mages can practice it in secret, such as Kel’thuzad in the early days. But it’s not uniquely restricted to specifically mages only.
I would rather they spend development time making Mage healers viable instead of trying to shoe-horn new features into a class that is already in need of tuning with what they have available already.
Problem with this is that RPG’s and MMORPG’s usually have the edgey type summoner/caster archetype. In some games that’s things like a Necromancer, in WoW it’s covered by the warlock.
Well it’s all based on pretty much D&D and old card games the OG Blizzard guys played.
Hunter = Archer archetype btw
" Archers are masters of ranged combat . They prefer to take down their enemies from afar and generally avoid close combat. Although some races, such as elves, certainly favor this class and are well suited to it, any race can excel at being an archer, given enough training."
