What mages need :
- Ice Barrier absorption doubled. Underwhelming for a 31 talent point. You can even add it to Advanced Warding.
- Give us a ranged instant slow. Either Slow or Cataclysm version of Blast Wave, where we choose where to drop it.
- Remove displacement mana cost. Doing a Blink - Displacement - Blink is 3x 400 mana. Way too much for an escape that leaves you oom. No point escaping if it’s to die from mana issue. Also Displacement should remove all slows.
- Give us a mechanic to reduce our casting time. Frostfire bolt (3 sec. cast), Balefire Bolt (2.5 sec. cast), Fireball (3 sec. cast), Frostbolt (2.5 sec. cast) are impossible to use in PvP atm. Like frostbolt reduces the cast time of the next frostbolt by 0.5 sec. so we cast downcast a Rank 1 frostbolt to be able to fast cast rank max or Scorch doing the same with Firebolt.
- Arcane spells range. Make 41y please. 30 yard is so bad I can’t even CS a shaman launching a Lavaburst on me and Arcane Barrage is a decent instant in PvP.
- Spells that need to ignore the GCD : Deep Freeze, Fire ward and Frost ward. Shadowstep now ignore GCD, we need to be able to react fast too since we have the least resistance out of all the classes out there.
- Overall mana issues. In PvP we have to stack Stamina and it comes at the cost of Int. It would be nice to add an increased mana regen effect on a PvP rune (like Displacement, Ice Lance or on Ice Armor but then make mage armors undispellable). Let us play the game without having to drop out of the fight or let ourselves die because we can’t sustain ou mana. We’re mages ! We’re supposed to bath in the Aether and be the most knowledgeable when it comes to mana and yet we have the worst mana management of the game.
None of those changes will have much of an impact in PvE. We don’t need more damage but more life improvement/survivability and damage mechanics adapted to PvP.
Just reroll. I’ve only played Mage but had to give up like all of us who enjoy pvp should. if PvE numbers are good we will not get a PvP buff. Hunter is the new OP Mage. It hurts to reroll but that’s what the dev’s want
Yeah that’s what I did. Mage isn’t my main anymore since it’s been garbage in PvP but I kept on leveling it every phase just in case. Now that we (finally) hit max level I reckon it’s time the devs did something. It may not be in the next couple of weeks but it would be nice if they started working on balancing pvp. Most of my suggestions have no PvE impact so it won’t affect our raid performance.
Even with R10 set ?
Currently going for R8 this week and wondering if it’s worth doing the big grind to R10.
On my “BiS list” PvP I can get to 4k5 hp, thinking it will help since I’m at 3k hp atm.
Yes Ice barrer is still on classic damage while as a hunter I can destroy it in one blow.
Hunter has always been the rock for mage scizzors but still , I kill mages way too easily I can imagine the frustration. Damage doubled ? Double the barier

And those chimeras aren’t even the hardest hitting, hunters with the MC bow seems to be critting for 1.8k chimeras on the regular. Also what is up with chimera being almost a guaranteed crit.
If anything you’ll be at an ever bigger disadvantage due to playing a class with low armor and even auto shots will chunk your hp.
The devs are just clearly not concerned with PvP balance issues whatsoever, shamans are broken, hunters are broken, paladins are broken, rogues are broken, warlocks are broken… it seems like they tried to shoot for everyone to be broken but missed the mark on a few classes. Or they didn’t consider PvP at all…
Full buff/stuff hunter with warrior buff who stayed on the same position for 7 secs is near 50 % crit chance. So it is not a surprise. Non crit hit not as much because of the 30% damage on Crit damage so you probably don’t feel it much and therefore notice it.
But in the other hand if you manage to get on melee hunter is a free kill if you have totems and stuff. Quite clunky.
I lost to a one mage till now - arc healer mage, as a warrior…
That would never be a case in classic, maybe with T1 2pcs things will change, but i doubt it.

With R10 set I have as much HP as a Hunter who’s naked. The clowns that balance SoD forgot that there’s a reason Mages have less HP than other Vanilla classes ( they get more mana and have more CC/damage ) so when they gave everyone unlimited CC/damage/mana they forgot to also give Mages more HP.
