Mage tower appearances + others

So is there any chance in the future of the removed mage tower weapon skins coming back ? , Just i have had 8 people i know leave the game because they cant get the weapon skins they want as they didn’t play legion and people have that annoying itch they will never complete the transmog collection they want, same for the blades of azzinoth… i had a friend grind out the warglaives only to find out he had to wait for a timewalking event to transmog the weapons he wanted and just bombed the game off completely and went back to OSRS because there is no FOMO itch on OSRS , if you want it you can make enough money and buy it… i think removing items is very “non new player friendly” , as one guy put it “i don’t want to play a game that basically says you didn’t play this game in 2015 so F you and be stuck and unable to obtain the transmogs you want” Completionism is very important for a lot of gamers and a new player coming to a game that has a massive list of items you cant get anymore leaves new people feeling penalized and it being pointless for them to even begin, its definitely a sure thing that happens, after all its a game there shouldn’t be a penalty to when you complete a challenge for you to get a weapon transmog if you do the mage tower now you should get the weapon skin also, its not like doing it years ago was such a big accomplishment its just time gated nonsense and really annoys new players that they missed out, catering to the top 1% of neckbeard gamers isnt healthy for a game, new players are more important to keep the game alive… ive played this game since 2008 and seeing how many people left due to it becoming Femboy craft and limited time items removed really sucks, i want wow back to its glory days and unlocking all these removed items and mounts etc is a step in the right direction IMO.

Yeah this is kinda an issue, where there is no good way to resolve it, cause depending on the class, magetower items no longerr being available is insane.

Druid suffer really hard from this, specifically feral since guardians got a form of wherebear available to them through the mage tower. But ferals literally dont get acces to around 3 I think of their already limited customization that has only recently gotten another 3 additions, but still isnt alot.

I just had 12 people tell me that didn’t happen.

I agree that everything that was not seasonal should be re-introduced into the game in one form or another.

You have this all the way since Vanilla - the people who did not play Vanilla, and started off in TBC, obviously did not get many regular runs of things like BWL and MC, however, dungeons in TBC offered recolors of sets from the vanilla raids.

The Legion MT appearances were pretty much an entire expansion feature. Well, I personally didn’t play during Legion either, but would love to obtain those weapons. Now I’ve been a regular for multiple years, yet this doesn’t matter as I can never obtain those weapons.

So yeah, bring them back. Even if you return them as slightly-different recolors, it’s still something. Gatekeeping cool things from successful expansions for people who weren’t there at the time is very frustrating for some people.

As much as i agree that they shouldn’t be removing stuff from the game and mage tower weapons should have come back with the mage tower I’m call BS on this statement.

Nice I can ditch calendar, weekend threads just pop on cue. I imagine there will be varying opinions on the mage tower appearances for one, I recon seen it discussed few times by now.

Wish they would, but they didn’t bring challenge mod sets back for remix.

I think they should add them to the trading post just to really watch the world burn lol.

What do you want 6-8 year old low res weapons for anyway?

Blizzard should be making us some new High Res stuff instead.

These people were probably going to leave the game anyway. They don’t really sound like Warcraft players.

And I find this number highly unlikely.

Besides, back to my original point. Blizzard should just design new skins for each expansion, for the expansions theme. And just carry on. That way people always have something to work towards.

That sounds rather far fetched. People don’t leave a game because they can’t unlock some weapon appearance from an old expansion.

Comments like this really dont help discussions. Be genuine. You want to be able to unlock something from a time limited event. It would be incredibly shallow to quit a game over a cosmetic. Which is why it’s not believable.

At present Blizzard have declined to bring back any of the previous challenge type sets. Whether or not this may change in the future, none of us can say.

I’d love to see the original mage tower appearances be obtainable again even if for a limited time. Blizzard seem to think that these should be rewarded from a challenging mage tower encounter, which I tend to agree with, so I understand why they haven’t been brought back. As the game evolves, things change and it would be unreasonable to maintain all of the challenges at a somewhat consistent level of difficulty without cheese strats popping up.

What would lend itself well to bring the appearances back would be a Legion remix. They could tailor and balance each challenge specifically for the event to make sure it’s all reasonably difficult.

Another solution I could see to this is a recurring event where the mage tower is rebalanced for, let’s say 2 weeks, once a year, and for the duration of the event, the old appearances would be rewarded. I think that would be reasonable and not too much work.

Whatever the case, I don’t believe the mage tower appearances should be “lost to time”. I have a few of them, and some I don’t because I just wasn’t playing those classes back then. It wouldn’t bother me if people get their hands on the appearances I got, and I don’t see why it should. As long as they complete the mage tower challenge, they’ve earned it in my book.

And yes, I’m aware that the mage tower got a lot easier in the later patches of the expansions due to overgearing. My point is that the initial idea for the appearances was that they’re a reward for something difficult, so I think if they were to be brought back, that’s what it should be.

They’ve said no multiple times already.

Bring back the original rewards. People who did Mage Tower have had 10 years to gloat. Also, mage Tower wasn’t hard. It could be cheesed and outgeared. Stop trying to act like you’re protecting some great accomplishment. It’s just Blizzard creating fomo.

If Blizzard refuses to bring the original rewards back, the next best solution is obvious and simple, and they already did it: Recolors.

They did it for the bear form. Twice (new Mage Tower and Emerald Dreaam world boss). Why not add recolors of everything else? Especially the cat form. It’s insane that something so integral to the class is simply unobtainable for anyone who didn’t happen to play 10 years ago.

Recolors gives both people with the original rewards and people without the original rewards something new to collect.

Recolors lets people without the original rewards obtain the skins they want for their transmog (if the recolors are made in a relatively similar color without being identical), while still allowing people with the original skins to feel like special boys for the rest of time.

Also, sidenote: Several people have commented on OPs claim that he knows 8 people who quit WoW because of these unobtainable skins. I frankly don’t care whether that statement is true, I just want to say that I can totally relate to the sentiment. As a druid main, every time I see someone with that sparkly cat form, I get the feeling that no matter what I do, I can never look that cool, so why even bother. I haven’t quit, but it’s just a really bad feeling that some people have a fundamentally cooler version of the character I play. Not a cooler mount, not a cooler title. A cooler version of the character itself.

Still in SW last time i saw :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok this is my speculation:

There will be a Legion Remix in 2 years when TWW ends.

All of the original MT will be purchasable with some reasonable time investment in the Legion Remix.

A lot of people will be excited about this (including the 8 people mentioned by OP who will return to Wow now that they can have the 1 thing preventing them from playing).

And then after a large part of the player base has acquired these appearances all interest in them will be lost (including the 8 people above who will quit the game once more because they can no longer access another appearance which was only accessible during the time that they quit because they couldn’t have access to the original MT appearances).

I am confident it has nothing to do with gloating. Sometimes there are just rewards that you could earn by being around for the expansion like the Hand of A’dal title or the MoP Challenge Mode transmogs. I would like to have both, but I didn’t play at the time and understand that I’m locked out as a result.

Just be aware you’re opening a huge can of worms here, this discussion pops up every now and then and it becomes a mess rather fast.

I’ve seen many people who have them say, several times, this is particularly about it and the fact they would feel less special, so they don’t want to…

Far fetched or not in the past 5 years of me playing the game i have had many friends join due to me asking them to play up to the point they begin to understand the game, then seeing a list of items they cannot obtain anymore does make people just quit as they will never have that completion feeling due to missing out on these appearances.

I have most Mage Tower weapon and Druid appearances from Legion and I wouldn’t mind them returning. It’s not about the prestige for me, rather the idea that content is being removed for no reason when we all pay the same expansion and subscription costs.

The Mage Tower was heavily outgeared at the end of Legion and didn’t offer much of a challenge. Todays incredibly difficult version is simply overtuned, so it may be difficult to implement without involving the Mage Tower again.

And they also put the Feldrake mount as TWITCH drop … and the old spectral griffin and wind rider on the trading post, people spent thousands on those mounts just for it to be put in only to be obtained through dumb means, makes no sense to keep the best looking weapon Tmogs off the table when they done that.
